Key Takeaways:
Russian forces did not make any confirmed advances in the Avdiivka area on April 30 for the first time in several days, while Ukrainian sources reported that Russian forces conducted several more attacks in the Bakhmut-Chasiv Yar direction than near Avdiivka.
Russian forces may decide to push from their salient north of Avdiivka towards the Toretsk area to complement Russian offensive operations near Chasiv Yar, which would likely require Russian forces to conduct a tactical pause to concentrate forces for such a drive.
Russian sources claimed that Ukrainian forces conducted a short-range MGM-140 ATACMS strike against targets in occupied Crimea on the night of April 29 to 30.
Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin expressed outrage over Russian authorities’ treatment of Central Asian migrants, particularly Tajik citizens, indicating that increased Russian efforts to control migrants living in and entering Russia following the March 22 Crocus City Hall attack are continuing to strain Tajik-Russian relations.
Former Georgian Prime Minister and founder of the Georgian Dream political party Bidzina Ivanishvili reiterated a series of standard Kremlin information operations during his first public speech since announcing his return to Georgian public politics in December 2023.
Russian forces recently made confirmed advances near Kreminna, Chasiv Yar, and Robotyne.
The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) reported on April 30 that Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov and First Deputy Defense Minister Ruslan Tsalikov inspected a drone testing ground in an unspecified area of occupied Ukraine.
An investigation by Russian opposition outlet Vazhnye Istorii implicates Kremlin-appointed Russian Commissioner on Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova and her sister in the deportation of special needs Ukrainian adults to Russia.

Outside of Stormy and Cypher, Russian "trolls" seem to be the only people actually posting stuff about the war.

British Defence Intelligence
INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 01 May 2024
The investigation into the Russian Deputy Defence Minister Timur Ivanov has likely pulled in the more senior First Deputy Defence Minister Ruslan Tsalikov. It has been reported that Tsalikov has been questioned by the FSB in connection with the Ivanov case. Tsalikov has been described as a patron of Ivanov. Tsalikov is likely effectively number three in the Ministry of Defence hierarchy, after Defence Minister Sergey Shoygu and Chief of the General Staff General Valery Gerasimov. Like Ivanov, Tsalikov has long-standing connections with Defence Minister Sergey Shoygu. He worked under Shoygu in the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Situations and followed Shoygu firstly to the Moscow Region Governorship and then in 2012 to the MOD.
There is also a realistic possibility that investigations into Ivanov could also affect Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov with some sources claiming that MOD construction agencies built a house for Siluanov.
Corruption has long been a problem in the Russian MOD. In 2019 Chief Military Prosecutor Valery Petrov said that corruption was "pretty much the root of most of the problems in the state of the rule of law". Corruption was a factor in Russia's poor performance particularly early in the Ukraine conflict, where corruption was blamed for expired ration packs and poor-quality tyres, and fuel embezzlement was also reported.

UPDATED: Ukrainian drones attack oil refineries in Russia's Ryazan, Voronezh oblasts
by Martin Fornusek and The Kyiv Independent news desk May 1, 2024 11:03 AM
Editor's note: The article was updated after sources in Ukraine's military intelligence agency (HUR) confirmed the attacks in a comment for the Kyiv Independent.
Drones operated by Ukraine's military intelligence agency (HUR) attacked the Ryazan Oil Refinery and a refinery in Voronezh Oblast overnight on May 1, military intelligence sources confirmed for the Kyiv Independent.
Russian authorities reported on drone strikes against the two oblasts earlier on May 1, with claims being spread on the Russian Telegram channels that the Ryazan refinery was on fire.
Ukrainian media outlets subsequently reported that Ukraine's military intelligence agency was behind the attacks.
The first four explosions could be heard at the Ryazan refinery at around 2 a.m. local time, after which a large fire started on the facility's territory, the sources said.
The Voronezh Oblast refinery was also hit, the sources confirmed, without elaborating on the consequences.
According to Russian media, fragments of a downed drone also damaged buildings in Voronezh Oblast.
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed its forces downed six Ukrainian drones overnight: three over Voronezh Oblast, one over Ryazan Oblast, one over Belgorod Oblast, and one over Kursk Oblast.
Ukrainian forces have recently launched a series of drone strikes aimed at damaging Russia's oil industry. Attacks against oil depots in Russia's Smolensk Oblast last week destroyed 26,000 cubic meters of fuel, security sources told the Kyiv Independent.
The Ryazan Oil Refinery, the largest plant operated by the Rosneft company, was reportedly targeted also back on March 13.
The strikes against Russia's oil industry have prompted criticism from U.S. officials, who have made it clear that Washington does not support Ukraine's targeting of oil refineries, citing fears that it could threaten the global energy market.

I love being called a Sheeple and a fool for "believing the media" and all that
Anyone who believes any media figure 100% is a sheeple and a fool. Whether thats your cookie cutter MSNDNC shill or Tucker Carlson. The best case scenario with these people is that they are inserting their own biases in coverage of events, whether that's coming from them personally or the masters they get a paycheck from.
That said, there are some that I do believe more often than others. Them not just 100% towing the party line is a good sign that they have at least some independence, or just balls. People discussing things that don't get talked about, but are important. Currently the coverage of the Gaza stuff is a good barometer...

I have found that the vast majority of reporters/journalists are clueless fricktards, it matters not whether MSM or Alt Media. Their only talent is writing and/or presentation via print, podcast or video media. That plays to 90+% of the public who are clueless of the processes and mechanics behind each issue. This revelation came around 1980 and increased exponentially since the early 2000's. Ron Paul supporters are among the most clueless of all, and abreast of the far left in cluelessness.

Ukraine gets green light for defensive strikes against Russia — Latvian FM
May 1, 2024, 09:38 AM
Some countries are providing Ukraine with military aid without restrictions, enabling strikes on Russian territory, stated Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže in an interview with European Pravda on May 1.
This aid comes as Western stances evolve regarding Ukraine’s defensive strategies against Russia.
"International law allows strikes on aggressor countries' territory for defensive purposes," Baiba Braže said.
"While Ukraine receives weapons from Western partners with a public warning to avoid strikes beyond its borders, such a stance is shifting."
"Some countries have already provided weapons to Ukraine without imposing restrictions," she said.
"In these instances, the lifting of restrictions is not publicly disclosed."

Nor should it be.
I just saw a Newsweek report where Ukraine announced they will be beginning in country F-16 ops on May 5th. I grew up on military bases around the world. One thing that I vividly remember is the commercials on AFN when we lived in Germany in the early 80's talking about "you never know who is listening". How have we gone from that to telegraphing every move made?

This is to add some context to the current Russian gains in Ukraine. While Russia is making advances, they are very small in the grand scheme of things.
Russia is currently experiencing the most success in the Avdiivka region (center of map above). Here is a zoomed in view of that area with order of battle info.
Russia is moving incrementally forward, they have not been taking massive chunks of land.
