Today, the Department of Defense (DoD) announced new security assistance to meet Ukraine's critical security and defense needs that uses the limited resources that remain available to help Ukraine.

This package utilizes assistance previously authorized for Ukraine during prior fiscal years under Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) that remained after the PDA revaluation process.

The capabilities in this package, valued at up to $175 million, include:

AIM-9M and AIM-7 missiles for air defense;
Additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS);
155mm and 105mm artillery rounds;
High-speed Anti-radiation missiles (HARMs);
Tube-Launched, Optically-Tracked, Wire-Guided (TOW) missiles;
Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems;
More than 4 million rounds of small arms ammunition;
Vehicles to tow and haul equipment;
Demolitions munitions for obstacle clearing;
Equipment to protect critical national infrastructure;
Spare parts, maintenance, and other ancillary equipment.

The GOP Congress expected Biden to give Ukraine a lot more aid. That's why they passed Lend-Lease, which Biden then refused to use. The GOP Congress expected Biden to give Ukraine the equipment that it needed to win, and Biden wouldn't do that.

So, why should Congress pass more aid so that Ukraine can lose more slowly than otherwise? Why is Ukraine's losing more slowly a goal that the American taxpayers should foot the bill for?

This is the key part of the equation that so many observers (and most of the discussion here) is overlooking. Speaker Johnson's letter to Biden says that Congress needs to see a strategy of victory before they authorize more aid.

Totally agree.

We'll look back on Biden's dithering and strategy of "bleeding Russia" with disdain after this is over and a full accounting takes place.

Fully agree. I’m with the speaker on this. Equip Ukraine to win or force a favorable settlement, or step out.

Sure over valuation of old arse retired arms and ammo we were going to have to PAY to dispose of.

I cannot sell a used car and almost retail price including cost escalation. Maybe you can. Also, I don't want to pay for destruction cost of old ammo that is headed for that by executive order, or expiration date. Maybe you like paying those added costs for what was made 20+ years ago but think that it is for free.

My wife has a degree in English and minor in Art History. She cannot understand why a car needs oil.

She understands this better than this NC dude.

Yea. You don't pay taxes in fixed assets.

In another attempt to deflect from the point that we aren't sending $113 billion in cash, you are now trying to say it's all cash because it was all ONCE cash, while in reality the arms, ammunition vehicles, and other fixed assets sent ceased to be cash well before Russia invaded last year. Just because something has a valuation, doesn't mean it's cash.

As a petty dude who thinks "fixed assets" are spontaneously generated, you really should take a break. Regarding accounting and finance, you have no idea who you're addressing.

Your grandfather paid for them. What you WOULD be paying for is for contractors to destroy them here. It costs thousands of dollars just to dump them into the sea as artificial reefs. All oil and grease has to be removed, ever last partial drop. Then towing out to sea and lifting over the side.

You obviously WANT to spend more than sending to Ukraine

Some rando on the internet, just like every other person here. But since you apparently think a tank is cash, I hope you aren't an accountant.

It's because the Biden Administration has completely bungled the war, doling out equipment slowly and long after it would have been most effective.

You have no clue as to who I am. Nor do I you. I do know you are an absolute nitwit, or at least play the part here.

I concur fully.

The Biden Admin has screwed this up. Either help Ukraine or don't. If you are going to help them, then give them the stuff they need to win. The problem is that the war is beyond that point, I am rapidly approaching the point where I don't think there is any level of assistance we can reasonably provide Ukraine that will make a difference in the war. Reasonably is the key word in that sentence.

This war has exposed how unprepared we are to fight a major, sustained, conflict. We can not replace the weapons or munitions fast enough to avoid running out. Steps are beginning to be taken to address this problem, but the solutions are still years away.

Because of that, I do not think we have the luxury of giving away our reserves of equipment. If we get into a real war, we will rely on those hardware stockpiles, just as Russia has done with its hardware stockpiles.

So after the invectives tossed this way by OT'ers, I am genuinely curious. What got to you? The fact you are petty as hell and got called on it, or the assumption you were a "dude"?
