Lol they’ve increased their economy. If they had anywhere near the death you guys are claiming, their economy and total defense wouldn’t be as reported.
They have increased their economy?

Yes. Look it up. Our sanctions and this war have not hurt their economy.

But also because Ukraine isn't asking you or me to fight.
Disingenuous at best. They’d love nothing more than to see American tanks and jets rolling across Ukraine right now. In fact they begged for us to set up a no fly zone over Ukraine at the outset of the war which would have been a blatant combat operation against Russia.
quote:
When we send Ukraine our old M113s, that means that don't have to dispose of them by dumping them into the ocean. When we send them an old HAWK air defense system, then it no longer requires our expense of storing it in some warehouse. When we give them old ordinance, it saves us the expense of disposing it or recycling it.
Also disingenuous, yeah they are getting some old shite but they’re also getting plenty of brand new shite like HIMARs, SDBs, JDAMs, Javelins and TOWs.
quote:Most of the money doesn’t come directly from the defense budget. A lot of it is separate money allocated specifically to Ukraine.
That's why, when I said that our aid to Ukraine was 8% of the Pentagon budget ... it's really a lot less. We've given so little to Ukraine.
Stop cherry picking facts to make your point. It’s not debatable that the United States is spending a whole lot of money on the fight in Ukraine. If you want to make the argument that it’s worth it or it’s bargain then fine, but this shite certainly isn’t free. And every American has the right to ask about where and how their tax dollars are being spent.

Bless your heart. You actually believe the fake statistics that Putin is putting out?
That's unfortunate, but you shouldn't feel too bad about that, as lots of other people have also accepted ridiculous Russian propaganda.
Here. I googled Russian economy news, and this is the first story that popped up. It explains that in a little more detail for you.

At this point, we've helped destroy something like 60% of Russia's conventional military

Yeah I don’t buy that number at all.
No one has anything more than an educated guess. But I will say the fact Russia is pulling T-62 tanks out of mothballs speaks volumes to the level of losses they’ve sustained
What are the generally accepted numbers of soldiers currently in the Russian armed forces?
Last month this thread had a military report alleging that over 95% of the Russian army was in the Ukrainian conflict.
They seem to have committed enormous amounts of human manpower. Their (shocking) inability to dominate Ukraine with that commitment implies a massive loss of life.
The only other obvious explanation would be tens of thousands of desertions. Which I don't believe have been reported

General consensus is it hurt, but not as bad as the "Ukraine flag in Twitter bio" folks were saying at the start. Similarly most of Europe didn't freeze to death this winter as some Putinistas were convinced of.

Russia is running
Out of materials to dominate like they wanted. I believe they will realize that to save weapons for further down the road that they back away from Ukraine. Russia is not even close to being a world power like it was one year ago.

I agree. The numbers are likely inflated but I think actual losses are still high.

You really believe is as big a military power as they were just one year ago.. if so you are fooling yourself.
Posted on 3/7/23 at 10:17 pm to dukke v
If they’re not a power, why are we sending billions to help fight them?
Posted on 3/7/23 at 10:20 pm to momentoftruth87
Oh they are more of a power than Ukraine by far. But they are not near the world power they were before the invasion. They should have won this war
Within 6 months.
Within 6 months.

Disingenuous, huh? OK, I'll know how to view your comments in the future.
With Javelins, we mostly gave Ukraine the old ones that were due to expire and have now ordered new ones for ourselves.
Yes, we are purchasing some new things from American manufacturers to send to Ukraine. We are buying a number of different drones, for example, which allows the Pentagon to see exactly how they perform in battle. But besides the tremendous benefits in our understanding of modern warfighting, every purchase supports American industry and American jobs.
And if you want to strictly look at the war from a financial point of view, it's been highly beneficial to the US. Our LNG supplied much of Europe this winter. Farmers like my dad have made much greater profits on high grain prices. American weapons manufacturers are awash in orders for new equipment from around the globe. Here's a billion-dollar order that happened today.
Our government wasted untold billions on stupid "stimulus" junk during the pandemic, but the war in Ukraine, and our very limited contributions to it, have proven to be a sound investment, even in purely monetary terms.
Any argument otherwise is ... disingenuous.
