Well that could get interesting as this continues
The Twitter rumor was that the shooter was Muslim, and the officer said something offensive about Muslims. Relying on ethnic minorities for mobilization and then insulting them at the same time is a weird strategy.

Did you live through 2020?
Papermills produced 800% of normal tissue paper in the USA (we are a net exporter, not importer) because social media said we imported from China, so people started hoarding.
How many rooms did you fill up to stock up on toilet paper?

n a summary, the news bite the Russians are promoting since last night is that Ukraine is planning to blow up the Kakhovka dam and flood the whole area below it, thus completely cutting off the Russian invader group from any supply.
All sources of this info lead back to Russia.

In other words, I'd bet that Russia's lack of railway bearings is going to be a problem for them, but I doubt it will be quite as catastrophic as he claims.
Unless high speed rail, babbit bearings work just fine. Scrap yards here love them. Melt the lead/tin babbit out to separate from the cast steel. Just a beefier version of under 1000 RPM electric motor sleeve bearings, but not as beefy as bearings for ships, which turn at around 100 RPM

Now it's up to the mods to do their jobs and keep OML out of here. Whether that means permanently banned from the site is up to them. His frickery has gone on long enough.
I blame the people responding to OML as much as I do him and the other shite posters.

Yes! Let the crazy ones shout into the wind. When people answer, they only give the crap more credibility than it deserves. When a person is convinced that everything is a conspiracy, then there's no helping them. I should know, because my own mother is so deep in conspiracy crap that she's now a flat-earther. Arguing with them is what sustains them -- it's the fuel that they live on.

I think the Russian army plans to fight it out in Kherson and inflict as many causalities in Ukraine as possible because Ukraine cannot sustain the losses as well as Russia can.
Frankly I think the smart thing to do would be to retreat to the east side of the river and set up defensive positions. Ukraine is nowhere near being able to conduct a contested river crossing at this point in time.

Russian state TV roundtable that gets heated.
That is a shocking clip. I would never expect anyone on one of those shows to be so seemingly honest about the dangers of inflammatory propaganda and using it to justify other crimes. This is not what I expected to see when I opened that clip.

wait, I thought Ukraine still had atleast 300k soldiers in reserve, has that changed?
what makes you think Ukraine cant handle the sustained losses but russia can?
seriously interested in your take on this.

while i agree 100% on ukraine not being ready to conduct contested amphib assualt, wouldnt that just allow Ukraine to bring in himmars and shell the shite out of the russians?

I definitely don't know the best way to deal with these people, but I just can't stand the straight up propaganda they spout. It's fine to distrust our media and government, but you should be discerning with all media and governments too. There is no one in the current media ecosystem who even attempts to challenge these narratives and also no one who can suggest that their epistemological approach is flawed. There are real-world effects as well, like the personal example you used, and the numerous interactions I've had myself and I'm at a loss at how to approach it.
Regardless, I can take the blame too that my approach isn't the best one and obviously apologize for my part in derailing the thread. To be fair though, this derailing has corresponded with a lull in battlefield news.

But aren't the bridges destroyed between the banks, and thus make moving units from one side to the other more complicated?

Logistics guru Trent Telenko unequivocally stated that Russia's invasion would fail due to lack of trucks and tires when most pundits expected Kiev to fall in days. He now says that Russia has cannibalized it's supply of railway bearings and can't make any more. Without rail transport, he predicts the Russian economy will implode in the winter of 2022-23 resulting in a humanitarian crisis and likely civil war. He urges western governments to develop contingencies based on that scenario.
Thr last thing the world needs is a nuclear power devolving into civil war. Now is the time to provide Russia with an off-ramp to this war before things get worse out of hand.

So Russia invades a sovereign nation, but we should help them avoid internal conflict? Let's support Putin!!
