Vladimir Putin has secretly approved a law that will send a further one million men to fight in Ukraine, a Russian newspaper reported on Thursday.

Could be a lie. After all here is Putin in March lying to the women of Russia and telling them not to worry because no man in compulsory service will be sent to fight and no additional men will be called to service is pretty good.

Strong man authoritarian rule is all fun and games until your son gets perp walked onto a bus and sent to defend something called the Donbas.

They will be used to clear minefields by marching through them. A lot of the male anti war protestors were given on the spot conscription notices

But you aren't making the point that you think you are when you say that the US got Romania and Bulgaria to start their 152mm production lines in June. It was only the US that could do it.

1. Only USDs not the US government could get Romania and Bulgaria to restart their production lines.

2. My point is that artillery ammunition was requested before the invasion and the Biden administration did not help supply them with a source ammunition until June. Meanwhile the Czech Republic started supplying the Ukrainians with artillery and ammunition in January and replacing its artillery with artillery purchased from France. If Ukraine had more artillery ammunition they would have prevented the Russians from taking Lyman, Severodeonetskl, and Lysychans'k.

It's not like there are a bunch of unneeded F-16s in storage. We can't even get them to Taiwan until 2026. Poland has the F-16s that it has, and there wasn't an easy way to get them more.

Actually the USAF has over 1300 F16s in storage. We could easily go through the them and find 50 - 100 airframes to send to Ukraine.

quote:

Poland also has orders for 32 F-35s, that I think get delivered in 2024.

Poland is making a sizable increase in its military capabilities, and buying from South Korea is a great way for them to do that quickly. It's not that we don't want to sell to Poland or that they don't want to buy from the US.

Actually they Poland doesn't want to buy from the USA under Biden if it can avoid it. Poland bought 250 M1A2s and 32 F35s under Trump. They were planning on purchasing an additional 500 M1A2s until this summer when the Biden administration blew up the deal. The only reason they bought the Apache helicopters is because the Apache is clearly the world's best attack helicopter and the only helicopter to rival it is the Eurocopter Tiger which is a made by France and Germany and Poland is still pissed at France and Germany for not letting them in on the next generation eurotank they are designing.

Wild that people who got arrested for protesting the mobilization are now getting pre filled out draft cards

Also tons of people apparently are being told to report in but have no previous military experience despite the Kremlin saying only those with prio experience will be called up.

I look forward to all your post in this thread, but your Biden hate is coming off cringe in regards to this particular conflict.

It's not my dislike of Biden that is doing it. It is knowing that Ukrainians are fighting and dying to retake Lyman, Lysychans'k, and Severodonetsk right now. That would not have been necessary because those areas would not have fallen if the Biden administration had gotten off its arse and help provide Ukraine with soviet era artillery ammunition before June.

America is clearly leading.

It's not leadership in my book, when posters on an LSU sports message board are discussing what aircraft would be the best for the Ukrainians (like we did a month ago) and if we should give them tanks before the administration even acknowledges that they are considering it. I don't know what yall call it, but I call it reacting and following.

1. Not surprising since it's Russia and the idiots were probably organizing their protests on Russian based social media. The FSB and GRU were probably monitoring the websites and making lists of who to collect.

2. Why the f**k would Russia want to send the protesters on the front line? The only thing I can think of is Putin wants to send the "bad apples" to front to get slaughtered to silence dissent.

Wait. Are you saying the great and honorable ex-KGB agent lied to his own people? I am shocked I tell you! Shocked!

It looks like they're trying to do close to full mobilization from places they think can get away with it like Buryatia, Dagestan, and Yakutsk and partial mobilization in places like Moscow & St. Petersburg where they think they can't.

It's likely that, but some "experts on twitter" are suggesting that Putin is using the war as a way to cleanse Russia of its ethnic minorities. I am not cynical enough to believe that, but on the other hand I am not naive enough to put it past him.

Except that the tanks did not make it to the front.

just read something in the r/ukraine. there was a trainload of t-62 tanks that pulled into the station at donetsk. there was a large explosion and destroyed the tanks.

looked up said tanks and they were first made in 1961. that’s what the russian army is using. add that to the first 300,000 conscripts, who won’t want to be there, and it will be a bloodbath for the russians.
