Just scrap or till the top 2" of soil lay new grass. Water it really well. Go to home depot and rent a lawn roller so the lawn wont be uneven water the piss out of it for 2 weeks 1-2 times a day and do not cut if for 2 weeks

you need to add soil to change the grade. the easiest solution is to plant it with some shade/moisture tolerant plants

As a result the St. Aug there isn't as strong and the soil is very compact. Solutions other than digging it up and leveling it out and resodding?

I think this is why I'll pay someone after I clear my yard. I'll frick it up somehow.

Thanks guys last question is how does one till a yard with multiple trees? Will the roots get in the way?

you do as much as you can really. be warned that the st. aug will not form a uniform carpet up to the tree roots. What kind of trees are we talking about?

Use masonry sand to topdress the area and bring it up.

If I could just get rid of the Dallisgrass in my front yard, it'd be perfect.

Cut everything out (grass, weeds, etc) then put Round Up down

I did this and then had a load of top-soil delivered.Wheel-barrowed it and raked it level. Then laid the sod.I had six pallets of "Sport" Bermuda delivered.I paid my nephew and two his buddies to help.

Why is everyone spending money to "kill" weeds and then bringing in topsoil?

He said it is hard mud and under trees.

He should be warned about adding topsoil on top of tree roots, especially if they are oaks.

Not sure if Home Depot carries Image, but that is a good place to start.

as long as it's not compacted, soil can go over roots on many trees.

Just saying that a blanket statement is dangerous. If he is putting dirt over Live Oak roots he will be starting a thread in a few months about how to save his trees.

LSU does this all the time on campus with mulch. As long as there is no compaction of stuff around it, it's fine.
