Yet many are refusing to give up life in the Intercontinental, Hilton, etc with 3 free catered meals per day, free water, diapers, etc
Lake Charles evacuees determined to have minor damage to homes asked to leave hotels

New Orleans - Many Lake Charles evacuees showed up to the Morial Convention Center on Monday morning in New Orleans after they said they received letters from the Red Cross telling them they had to leave their hotels.
Several evacuees say they have nowhere to go because their homes were destroyed by Hurricane Laura.
Some of the evacuees said they have to leave as early as Tuesday.
For more than a month, many evacuees have been living at hotels in New Orleans paid for by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, managed by the state and run by Red Cross.
"I received a text message saying I need to be out of the hotel by the 20th which is tomorrow, I have nowhere to go," said Morria Boyington from Westlake, Louisiana. "I have the info from my landlord saying the house is completely destroyed. Me and my kids have nowhere to go. Nowhere to go. We have no one to depend on. I refuse for my children to live in a car."
According to the Red Cross, those being asked to go home have had their properties assessed and were deemed to have minor damage and were sent to alert them that it was safe to return home.
The Red Cross sent a statement where they said evacuees were contacted through multiple communications to confirm their addresses.
If their home wasn't properly assessed or was heavily damaged, those residents can contact the Red Cross for a reassessment and information on another hotel or shelter.

When Gustav hit, Baton Rouge hotels still had FEMA evacuees staying in them from Katrina.

Would be interesting to know what the truth is here. Is the landlord playing some shady business for more insurance money? Or is the house really destroyed? Or is the tenant lying?

Between both storms, I spent 4 weeks staying next to these people (own my own dime)...some are nice and have nowhere to go but the majority were milking it for all they could.
I made a thread about the Red Cross sending the cops after me when I took pictures of them passing out a catered meal. The Red Cross thought I was the media and didn't want me to take pics.

Because people are really clamoring to get into hotels right now.

I would say that's a small amount out of the 10K people left in NOLA. It was 10K a few weeks ago so maybe that number changed but the majority of the section 8 houses here aren't beyond livable right now outside of Suffolk Manor. I am not sure about people that own or rent.

I am sure FEMA and Red Cross are tired of paying for thousands of people that can go home but refuse to.

Multiple hotels.
FEMA personnel were going around asking about occupancy from Gustav and we had to explain we still had FEMA evacuees on site.
$101 per night. Per room. For years. 40+ rooms at one hotel on corporate alone.

There's massive amounts of fraud in SWLA right now so who knows.
I have been assessing houses for people and there are people living in some conditions I wouldn't want to be in but they are home and working on getting things fixed and cleaned up.

Nobody is telling them where to go. They are just telling them to pay for their own shite now two months after the hurricane hit.

This is a good point. Tons of other people who had significant damage to their homes have already adapted and are living elsewhere. No one helped them do that. They just did it because they had to.

They should be in shitty shelters
Not hotels
They need motivation to go home and get their shite together

there arent enough meals or amenities on this planet to make me want to stay in a hotel over my home for more than about 3 days.

owning a home is hard. there's electrical bills and yards to mow & junk like that. NO THANK YOU. i'll keep my comfy suite and 3 hots a day until forced to move.

The Hilton and Intercontinental were getting their normal rates including weekend rates of $300 per night from what the hotel manager of the hotel we stayed at told me. I am sure they hate to see this end outside of the drama they dealt with.

one of the insurance carriers I work with has a lot of policy in the area(Lake Charles). As a part of their policy, they get up to $2-5k(depending on specific policy) to use on additional living expenses, no deductible, so long as its a hurricane still at landfall. They got doubled up with that because of delta.

Yeah but I imagine the damage and soiling done to those rooms by the trash has offset any profits.
