Lafayette has the last Borden's Ice Cream Shoppe in America, don't know if it's the same one you're talking about.
I've been away from Lafayette for many years, and for some reason I thought Borden's was no longer there. My bad.

Borden's is still there. Red Lerille's family bought it and renovated it back to looking like a 50's ice cream shoppe. The last of the old ladies that worked the counter finally retired. It's still a great place to go. I had one bad experience with a hipster counter boy who kept shaking the tip can at me, but I never saw him there again.
It's worth a trip after lunch or dinner. Especially if you have little kids.

And speaking of "only one left". The Ground Pati across from Blackham is still the old style Ground Pati. Same menu and burgers from when we were bringing our dates there in high school (no more pewter mugs and plates).
And no one has mentioned the last of the Popeye's Buffets?

Tunz! Loved that store, super Dave and the crew working there. Used to DJ in laffy back in the mid/late 90s.
Also, the movie theater in the Acadiana Mall in the early 80s. Awesome times!

Haven't seen DJ's Carl D or Scott D in many moons, unless you're one of them
I am not, but I do see them on occasion. Both great guys. John Fortier and Super Dave are 2 guys I hang out with a lot. Great friends of mine.

They had those weird sliding seats and the bathrooms were upstairs.

Remember that. You'd go watch a late night movie there and the entire rest of the mall was closed and dark by the time you'd leave. It was a bit surreal.

The sporting goods store on Johnston St. next to Stick's, I forget the name. Cajun/LA family name if I recall correctly?
That would be Terrebonne's Athletic Center that then became Terrebonne's Specialties.

LAGCOE
leaving town definitely hurt the economy. At least once every 2 years

Lagcoe was a joke. It leaving Lafayette had no impact on the local economy

“Employment” wise I agree, but from a “financial” perspective I’ll respectfully disagree. The LAGCOE 3-day exposition didn’t create jobs for the local economy but it sure did bring lots of money being spent on hotels, food, rental cars, and late night entertainment.

During it peak maybe. The last one I attended was 4 years ago. I just don’t see $2.5M spent in 3 days. Not that many people were there. Even the bigger companies had small booths except Franks. A study is just that. A study. The result of a study will be manipulated for the resulting outcome from which the paying customers wants

2015 Lafayette: 448 exhibitors and 16,400 attendees
FYI- NOLA just hosted LAGCOE in October with 300 exhibitors and the event started charging admission fees ranging from $35 to $95 to attend. Economic impact in NOLA was over $3.5M for 3 days. Not a fair comparison of LAF to NOLA, but my point is LAF lost a lot of financial stimulus (albeit 4 days) when LAGCOE left town. It was a great 60+ year run.

I agree. Don’t see it returning either.

Was there a David's Car Stereo in town?
Yup
I remember judging a few crank it up contests there.
