If she really wanted to try to ride it out it would depend if her position was appointed or elected. If appointed, I'm thinking it would be rough for her. Person doing the appointing probably doesn't appreciate being put on the spot. If elected, it depends on her electorate. I'm sure there are some places that would be a plus for her with some voters.

You always pretend to be impartial while exclusively coming form the left. If the Rae's were reversed, you'd never hear about this. Much in the same way you never hear about black cops killing white people or that black guy that was found not guilty of killing a cop the same day Rittenhouse was found not guilty. Certain narratives make the news. Others don't.
