People become more pragmatic with age. You start to realize who deserves empathy and who deserves a kick in the arse.

I have to agree with this. The older I get the more I realize there's no saving some people. They'll continue to make bad decisions just as they always have throughout history despite the fact, at this time in history, they have more information and resources at their disposal than ever before. There shouldn't be any excuses, but it persists.

I've never been to a therapist in my life. Am I missing out on something?

Yes, you’re missing out on going to a therapist.

Did y'all discuss the therapist's multitude of problems during your session or just yours?

Just FYI, you'd be better off reading a book or confiding in a trustworthy friend over a beer.

Here's a good example. It's lack of awareness and then screaming because rules were created because of your lack of awareness.

Entitled yes!

Thank you for this. Affirming why I won't go on a cruise. Not because of the rule change, that is, but why they instituted the rule.

People are lazy and its much easier to just generalize like everyone does with politics. No one wants to consider that a situation or person may be more complicated than the label they have been given.

I used to think that women were the much more empathetic gender. Some conversations I've had over the last 5 years have made me realize that's really not true.

Empathy hasn't decreased, nor has it become more unusual.

The situations where there is a social expectation of empathy, whether deserved or not, continue to expand. It is not the human default--after all, we all have very varying experiences, and not everything will resonate with everyone

There are a great many situations as well, where empathy might be appropriate, but where any individual doesn't have the context to feel empathy-- I can appreciate to a degree the experience of someone who lost a leg, but I have both-- I am not capable of empathy for them, because I have not walked the proverbial mile in their one shoe.

I’m not on meds, not that there is anything wrong with that. And what is the big problem that people like you have with others that try various ways to continually improve themselves? Therapy is a pretty valuable tool to get another perspective on things

The problem is that everyone knows too much about people they were never meant to know that much about or even interact with in any way. Social media has expanded our “circle” to include too many people and give us too much info about them. This leads to all sorts of issues, lack of empathy may be one of them for you.

You can’t spell “empathetic” without “pathetic”.

Just skip Carnival 3-5 day cruises out of anywhere and you won’t see the shite described in that article.

I'd confer with a friend instead of a therapist, but then I'd have one less friend
