I keep hearing that when applying OL, when an applicant reaches the 4th step in the process, the web site kicks you out & you are left to start over. And over & over. It is my understanding that in order to get a week's check, you must apply by Friday of that week. With the huge numbers of applications, it may not be a stretch for an application to take more than a week. If /when you finally get through & your application accepted, will it be retroactive to when you got laid off or will benefits simply start on the date the application is approved?

This link might help..not sure about deadlines in the future?

quote:

It said 30,000 claims had been filed since Sunday. That is a significant jump from the 1,698 claims it said were filed last week. The deadline to file a claim for income lost this week is Saturday.

Trick question. Benefits start 30 days after application is processed.

You have to apply. Then you have to have a hearing. Once your hearing is complete, you get a decision in the mail. You then have to wait a week, contact three employers. Then certify by Sunday 11:59PM. You will then receive a check the deposited the following Thursday.

Went through this in Sept 2018. It’s literally a 4-6 week process.

From friends who are receiving checks, the waiting period has been waived. As well, the weekly requirement to contact 3 employers each week has been waived, too.None of my friends had a hearing of any kind.

I hate to say this but if you applied today, you not seeing a nickel until early May unless they change the process to expedite claims.

I’m not trying to be Debbie downer, I just want people to have a realistic expectation.

I went through it all and there is no solid info, you have to be rigorous in following through. You may even have to go to a job center if you can’t get the website to cooperate.

It’s not pleasant and was frustrating. My claims were made in VA which was a lot more money than LA, but the process is the exact same everywhere.

I applied for my wife online a few days ago. I didn’t get kicked out at any point.

Well then they changed it up. Awesome.

I just know when I went through it to begin, it was stressful as hell because you’re dealing with the lowest totem poll of bureaucracy

Got unemployment a couple years ago. It really is a major pain in the arse

Took weeks to finally get approved then you have to apply every week by a certain date or you miss that weeks check. Have to list all the jobs you applied for that week
