How much did they drop the state income tax for non-OT ballers, 0.5%? Is that right?

The big cut is raising the standard deductible to $12,500. That's the bulk of where the savings come from for just people.

East Baton Rouge Parish is 5.5%, now add the state sales tax. It's going to be 10.5%. Outrageous.

Calcasieu was at 10.2% before this bud.

Guess we're now at 11.2%

Guess they never considered reducing expenses instead?

Never in the question in this tax and spend “red” (socially only) state.

They did not tax any of the services (or expanded base) they had talked about.

Instead they added 0.55% to the sales tax rate.

In exchange they tripled standard deduction to $25,000 per couple ($50,000 if over 65). After that deduction the income tax rate was lowered to 3% (down from 4.25).

That is the second lowest rate in nation of those states that have income tax.

So you are getting back 1.25%+ of your income to pay 0.55% more on some of what you choose to buy—I know i’m ahead.

Corporate closed some loopholes and lowered its rate from 7.5 to 5.5. That was more than governor’s proposed 3.5% since they would not repeal movie credit and some other giveaway credits.

Not as transformative as what was originally proposed—but definitely conservative reform and progress!

So we went from 9% tax to 14% tax? So for every 100 dollar we spend on goods we are paying 14 dollars in tax?

Don't we already pay some of the highest taxes on the nation and suck arse at everything? But muh good food

No overall our individual taxes are on par with states that we are trying to compete with like TX. We do have the highest sales tax in the nation but out income tax and property taxes are relatively low compared to other states.

A few years ago the BR Business Report ran an article comparing taxes in TX to BR and it was basically a wash in terms of overall tax $ spent.

quote:

The difference is so little because the combined state and local tax burden for Louisiana and Texas is almost identical. No doubt each state takes dramatically different ways of getting there, but the tax-paying destination, in the end, is essentially the same. Not only that, but however you calculate it the tax rates in both states are among the lowest in the country. In other words, it’s an unsupportable argument to suggest Louisiana overtaxes its residents—or corporations—when looking at all 50 states, rather than simply glancing at our neighbor to the west.

Duzz : no
They brought the rate to 5 they didn’t add 5
state sales tax goes from 4.45 to 5.0
For every hundred dollars you spend on taxable goods you pay an extra $0.55

in exchange the income tax goes from 4.25% to 3%— With the first $25,000 per couple at zero… It is a personal income tax reduction for every taxpayer

Its the fireworks. The previous Mike quit into his trailer when they started the pyrotechnics as the team runs onto the field. Supposedly, the his vets told Alleva its fireworks or Mike and he chose fireworks.

You do realize this is the state rate? The Parish (local) taxes put LA right up there with you, in the 10% range.

FL ranges from 6%-7.5%, depending on the county. And no income tax. Y'all are getting fleeced. But as someone pointed out, earlier, if we have to be taxed, and assuming it affects welfare recipients (I wouldn't know) then consumption taxes are more equitable than income tax.

Does anyone know how a sales tax hike impacts people on welfare? I hope they feel it, while they buy their lobster tails and filets.
