If it’s public info. I don’t see how it can be a crime.

Is there not already an option for some of these officials to not have their name show up on tax property records for their home address?

Texas had something for law enforcement, judges, and certain other officials’ addresses were masked on tax documents. Everyone should be have that kind of privacy for home address with county property tax records. Renters had more privacy on where they lived than the actual homeowners who were not one of those positions.

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana Illuminator) - Starting next year, hundreds of Louisiana officials will be able to sue private citizens, businesses and government entities for not removing their basic biographical information from the internet.

What about when the dmv lost all of my personal Identification information that I get an email every other day letting me know is still in the dark web.

Can i sue? Or only if these critters phone number leaks and they get a few voicemails on their burner?

Then don’t make assessors office information public. This will get overturned by the supreme court one day and will cost tax payers millions for a settlement. Does Jeff think he’s more powerful than the 1st amendment?

The legislature unanimously passed this as well. It was not just the Governor. It was also done in June, so I am not sure why many think it just happened recently.

quote:

Last week, the legislature gave final approval to House Bill 681 by Rep. Marcus Bryant, D-New Iberia, after Sen. Caleb Kleinpeter, R-Port Allen, added last-minute amendments to include statewide elected officials, members of the Public Service Commission and state lawmakers under an existing state law that shields their personal information from being made public.

The amended version of the bill passed the Senate on a 36-0 vote and the House on an 89-0 vote.

I agree with the privacy aspect with your home and that right is just as important as others, but I think everyone should have the ability to have their home address masked on public records. I actually think you shouldn’t have to opt out of it, and it should be the default for your home on tax and other public records by the government.

I mean, posting Jeff Landrys mom’s address is not okay.

He has my mom’s address. And hasn’t done much to protect it.
