There's no email addresses on these letters. And some look like really hurried poorly done photocopies of mass mailing letters.

That 50% state police pay raise isn't going to fund itself

I emailed them and am hoping this will be resolved finally bc I included my former insurance agent and my current insurance agent. I will update if it works out.

My advice is not to let it go to office of Debt Recovery. I received one of the letters a couple of months ago. I sent in all of the proper paperwork proving that they were incorrect. Didnt hear anything back. Got a letter from debt recovery stating that I owe the state $3K and that there is nothing that I can do about it.

How is this even possible? They kept adding late fees?

We called and finally got it taken care of. Had to email over a copy of a letter from our insurance stating coverage never lapsed and the lady took care of it right away. Got a letter in the mail a few days later stating it was officially off our record.

The entire thing is a huge pain in the arse but it can be worked out, just takes so much time and patience. The state has truly messed up and I am still waiting on the huge class-action lawsuit that will undoubtedly follow.

Still, how can they screw with people not even living in the state, and with no updated address info? They're just sending letters to random old addresses?

They can't. Even though I have the certified letter receipt showing that I sent it to them they told me basically that i was screwed.Once the DMV sends it to the state recovery center you are SOL. They will not renew my license until i pay.

The only consolation for those that moved away and don't intend to return. That's a very small group though.

How can there be no one to talk to at debt recovery? Isn't it run by the AG's office?

Got a letter from the Compulsary Insurance Unit Saturday saying I would have to pay fines on a vehicle I dropped insurance on.....that was traded in at a dealership in November! Tried to call to discuss but couldn't even get put on hold; too many calls. I made a copy of the bill of sale and trade in paperwork and mailed it today. Hopefully this will take care of it.

This is all just too weird. What about all the poor saps that moved and don't know? They get their credick dinged?

Jindal's last budget depends on you doing your patriotic duty, and sending in money. DO IT!

They probably aren't getting the notice.

I've thought about that.
