I'm one who believes that if it de-criminalized in New Orleans, baton rouge, shreveport etc.. it should also be treated the same way in every rural town. In rural towns they still post arrests in local newspapers. These are always filled with possession of marijuana arrests.

So now, if you were to drive through Grant, LA Salle, or Natchitoches parish etc with a little under an ounce..You're getting more than a fine.

This is just incorrect. Probation/Parole is rarely revoked for what they call technical offenses. shite, it's barely revoked in some districts for new felony convictions. The most they would make you do for just a few hot tests is start going to outpatient treatment. If that doesn't work they will do an ACT 402 to bring you in front of the judge to sternly talk to you. You really have to frick up to get revoked.

bro come on. maybe in BR or nola but try that shite up in allen parish or caldwell parish and lmk how that works out.

Not just you, every poster so far, especially the ones "nobody just for possession or simple use", are forgetting about the Re-incarceration of probationary persons.

Joe Thief out on bond, bail, or parole, pees hot. Back to the hoosegow! Jane Sex Offender teacher probation violation for possession of a joint, 10 years that was suspended ain't suspended no more.

A lot of reincarceration over simple pot violations but it's a semantics game. Probation/parole violation on paper but real world it's just a pot thing.

Legalizing/decriminalization will do nothing to probationary restrictions. Many people on probation have restriction on otherwise legal activities, like not drinking alcohol or having curfew restrictions. The length of the probation and restrictions on otherwise legal activities are all spelled out and agreed to by both sides in the terms of the probation in lieu of imprisonment. If judge says "don't smoke pot while you're on probation", you can always refuse the offer of probation and go to jail instead.

It wasn't an "Act 402" 90 day "revocation?" It ultimately is up to the judge and how cranky they are on the bench.

I've never seen anyone revoked in Orleans, a few in Jefferson and laughable lay downs in St. Charles. In two occasions the PO brought guys in for revocation due to total non-compliance and new misdemeanors. The liberal judge instead terminated their probation early and both went on to kill someone. One's name was Jayson Bynum and the other killed his dad with a hammer a few years back in St. Charles. I've never seen anyone get revoked for hot tests or just weed.

You make a lot of assumptions as if you know but you are just assuming. I've worked in liberal parishes and conservative parishes, it all depends on the judge and their mood but ultimately the DOC has told judges to go easy on drug law violators, don't revoke unless absolutely necessary, and give every chance possible. We have had multiple mass early releases of criminals over the years and some facilities shut down.

in smaller towns its harder on people. In Orleans, authorities see a lot. Hot test really isn't shite, they have real problems to see everyday.

But if you're on paper in a town of 2,500 where a murder hasn't happened in years..a hot test stands out more and its focused on more, to those authorities..it is something.

I wouldn't worry about waiting. It isn't going to pass this time.

It may be closer than people think. 2-3 years it'll pass.

It can't be brought up again until 2023 because next year is all about tax bills. 2023 is an election year, so good luck. If it doesn't passed now, 2025 may be the next opportunity.

With the speed or lack thereof that these clowns move, a debate and vote may not happen today.
