You’all are missing the whole point of the program. It was never intended to be for existing private schools. Givening it to existing private schools is the seed to start the steal. After the program is funded you will see the Booby Jindaly School for the gifted, the 6 Jeff Landry schools for the gifted…. Etc.. (insert politicians names) created as private schools to scope up the money.

Not mention the parents who will "homeschool" their kids to collect a check.

*Not an attack on homeschooling, just expect the worst from people taking advantage of a system. The legitimate homeschoolers and homeschool programs would benefit from this.

As a taxpayer I hate stuff like this

Most of the good jobs in Louisiana don’t need schooling like working in the oilfield or welding. We’re essentially wasting tax dollars to fund the next generation of billboard lawyers and clot shot pushers

And if we take kids out of the public schools we’re gonna lose the next generation of ufc stars

Don’t worry. It will never get funded.

What is the deal with this?

We got an email from the dean of my daughter's school saying they are going to participate in the LA Gator program beginning next year.

I understand this is supposed to be a school choice legislation.

To me, it looks like a bunch people are going to be able to start going to her private school for free, while I get to still pay full price.

Looks like our kids go to the same school. I am trying to get more information about the program from the financial department right now.

Yes, the state will save some money for current public students switching to private, but will cost A LOT MORE for private school students to remain private.

It would just cost the state what it should cost the state if our public schools weren’t so shitty. The state should already be funding the education of the 100k students who are in private schools. I would rather they just make the process easier and give a tax credit for a certain percentage of private tuition paid (something like 75%).

I get it.

The reality is, having crappy public schools saves the government money.

If all of a sudden, all the kids in private schools decided to go public, it elukd create a massive budget issue.

Now maybe we could try to find a way to be more efficient… lol

Cuts should come elsewhere IMO. Providing an education for the children of our state is one of the things that the state should be responsible for. If the education system is shitty, that should not remove that responsibility from the state.

Your children don't currently count towards the enrollment numbers for public schools.

So does that mean that my current contribution of tax money dedicated for education gets redirected to something else besides education since my kids are in private?

I'm guessing not. So the public system is utilizing and likely dependent on allocated funds from private school families to stay afloat and still somehow manages to put out a poor product outside of a few rural schools. Seems like a census needs to be taken and funding cut if families choose private.

Should be run like a business.

You do not pay any STATE tax dollars that are dedicated for education. It is funded out of the general fund.

You probably do pay LOCAL sales and property taxes for the public schools, along with people who don't have any kids at all.
