Well, yeah. The first stimmy and PPP was under Trump. The subsequents under Biden. Are you in a camp that may envision that chart leveling off or falling had Trump been retained in January 2021?

But that's secondary to my original post which is business in this country used the pandemic to increase profit over and above inflationary true costs to their balance sheets. We all know it.

But I'm also interested in your take to the first question here a little bit.

"Gross margins above 20%"

That would put their net margins around 3-5%.

Name a public company in the world that operates on lower margins than that

My rudimentary understanding of the grocery business is that private label brands are generally cheaper to the consumer but also more profitable to the grocer.

It checks out that as consumers shift from name brands to store brand due to price increases, then margins would increase for grocers.

It's not a set up any more than my reply to him above is.

Are you of the opinion every single business in the country colluded to increase profits to a level that YOU deem unacceptable?

Because the price of every item and service has skyrocketed in conjunction with the money supply. The cause and effect is well documented in economic literature, and the correlation of the charts is clear as day.

The govt. seems to have it out for Kroger. Remember when they vetoed the planned merger between Whole Foods and Kroger, but then shortly thereafter allowed Amazon to do it?

If they want competition, go after real monopolistic corporations like Google, Amazon, Meta, Wal Mart, etc.

So why are the prices of every good higher? Even the industries not seeing great profits have had substantial increases over the past few years.

(the grocery industry has never seen high profits, even currently..it's tiny margins)

shite like this always makes me laugh. How much is jeff bezos paid compared to the janitor that cleans up one of their storage warehouses? WGAS? What does the typical kroger employee's salary have to do with the salary of literally the head honcho, the man at the top of the largest supermarket brand in America?

It's just utterly ridiculous to ever bring up this kind of irrelevant bullshite.

I don't recall the PPI and the CPI getting that far out of line.

Sounds like if the jobs are so interchangeable, the janitor should just go be a CEO somewhere. Why doesn't he do that? Skillset and experience aren't important apparently.

Hey liberal fricks, imagine this concept…..CAPITALISM.

I know, I know, the thought of this might give you an aneurism, but….YOU DO NOT HAVE TO frickING SHOP AT KROGER. No one is forcing you.

If Kroger is gouging, which they aren’t, but if they were, then capitalism will work that shite out on it’s own.

I wish Baton Rouge would get a Publix, but looking at this map, it looks like the area expanding north and not west.

I really don't know honestly. By definition, inflation is simply an increase in the money supply as you said. The spike in the supply began 48 months ago. I'd love to calmly discuss the anomalies with you tbh. In a lot of consumer categories, things like supply, worker population, ingredient cost, fuel etc have somewhat normalized. But, as an example, cost per pound hasn't decreased.

The problem with this is that it’s way easier to point to antitrust concerns when Kroger and Albertsons merge than, say, when Google or Amazon buys some obscure startup. M&A activity is an easy antitrust trigger and the companies you listed don’t typically engage in risky M&A.
