Korean War veteran needs help after house is damaged by fire...

I saw this story on WBRZ's news the other night. It's sad that an old guy like this can't afford to fix his house after it burned.
FWIW, I don't know this man or his family. There's a link to a GoFundMe page in the story linked below. I've donated a few bucks but since I don't do FaceBook, which they ask people to link to spread the word, I thought I'd try to get the word out to all the ballers on the O-T Board.

"My neighbor knocked on my window there, said your house is on fire!" he recalled. "Okay, I said, we better get out of here then!"
The Korean War vet made it out alive, but has had to spend every last dollar he had to fix his house. A month later, there's still no electricity.
"That's life when you live life without insurance, you take that calculated risk that it's not going to happen to you," he said.
When Les's wife died of a long-term illness in 1995, the medical expenses were so high that he could no longer afford home insurance.
Les has had to rely on the kindness of friends, and help from his daughter Stephanie to get the house where it is now.

In all seriousness though, I hope things turn out well for him.

Not to be mean, but it seems like everything I see online these days is some sort of "give me money" story.

I see no reason to donate.

What was so expensive that they couldn't afford health insurance?

God I know it's getting really ridiculous. Which is why i'm starting a company to filter these requests out. If you'll give me a small donation I can end this problem for a lot of people.

I'm starting a gofundme because I went broke donating to everyone else's gofundmes because I'm such a good person.

So he knew the risk he was taking but now that it backfired, they're looking for donations to bailout his bad gamble?
I have the same level of sympathy for this as I did in 2016 for all the people who had houses in very nice neighborhoods, drove new cars, take nice vacations, yet couldn't come up with $400 for flood insurance and then go to Facebook and GoFundMe to get bailed out.

I noticed you didn't bold the part highlighting something occurred a quarter century ago.
