It hasn't been called a Snafu yet, but Oak RIdge also got the robo calls and their City Hall had to issue a "all is well, it's not us" notice.

We are 23 miles from downtown (as crows fly) and my husband's cell phone here warned him. Our house line didn't. Funny thing about his cell, it thinks we are in Sevier County and during Helene sent us Flood warnings for Sevier Coutny which is two counties away from us.

They are going to have to work on their credibility.

My office was in the evacuation zone... but I was on campus so was clear. On a zoom call with my boss and he had to leave to clear out of the office.

ETA: Also the picture in the OP has the red circle centered downtown which isn't at all accurate

More befuddled details:

This is what happens when you use a blow torch to open a box without knowing the contents.
Evacuation zone might last through Friday night.

KPD contirms that there's dynamite in the metal box. They will use robots to remove it, a stick at a time. This activity will continue into Saturday.

The situation prompted evacuations in a half-mile radius surrounding the recycling center in the Lonsdale area on Thursday afternoon. The evacuations will remain in place until the dynamite is disposed of, and dozens of people affected have sheltering at the Jacob Building.

if the test goes as expected, they will use the traditional disposal method for dynamite, which is to douse it in diesel and light it on fire, stick by stick.

Not gonna lie, this would not have been one of my first couple guesses on traditional disposal methods.

The evacuation is over. All the dynamite has been cleared from the box. Western avenue is still closed.

This one is a little more in depth

1000 lb steel box?

This says it was ammonium nitrate. Someone wanted to do some damages. I'm curious what type of businesses would have been in the blast zone.
