In Tee-ball, my son had both left and right handed baseball gloves and he used whichever he wanted to from inning to inning.....when the coach asked about it he told the coach he was amphibious.

I am. I can do almost anything comoetently, either left or right handed, but prefer to write with my left. It just feels more natural.

Right handed: throw, bat, golf, bow hunt

Left handed: write, eat, shoot rifle or pistol, ping pong, shoot pool

Kick with my left foot.

Play tennis with forehand from either side...more power from the right side, but can't hit a backhand from the right side to save my life.

I'm right eye dominant and do everything right handed except write, eat and play guitar. Bat, golf, tennis, shoot, etc. all right handed.

As shown by the responses to your post, it's not uncommon. I notice it regularly in others. Don't force him to change what's natural for him.

Can you determine his dominant eye?

Main reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to figure out my son. He's 4 and a half. 5 in November. He's writing his name left handed, yet, throwing things in his right. Anyone ever heard of this or seent it?

Absolutely. I write, right handed. Throw right handed. Bat left handed. swing a hammer both ways.

Not me, but as Junior Samples once said, "I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous."

My younger sister can switch from left hand to right hand seamlessly. The first person to notice it was her first grade teacher. Teacher was an old pro and said she had never taught a child who could use either hand that well.

I think I mostly am. When I was in kindergarten, I was able to write with both hands. My teacher and mom then forced me to pick a hand, which is a pretty big decision for a 5 year old. I chose my right hand, but my handwriting is simply awful. I think I may have chosen wrong. Every time I started writing with my left hand from that day forward, my teacher or mom would slap it down.

What a bunch of shite looking back. Would have been a hell of a party trick if I could write my name with both hands simultaneously.

Don't worry about that my son did that could bar equally well from left or right and when we wrote his name or colored and would get to the middle of the page he would often change hands. I could do a lot of this and read stuff backwards and outside down. ( hence we both got tested for dyslexia. It's just a wierd skill etc

Let him bat both ways to baseball and let him decide which hand he prefers. The above poster is correct don't force him to choose let him choose when he is ready.

We went back and force in t ball baseball forever he never had a preference. Sometimes he was better batting left sometimes right but he eventually threw right handed. He was not good at baseball but excelled at soccer and he could shoot etc left or right foot

Fiancee does everything except write with right hand.

Only one I know who was truly ambidextrous was this girl who broke her right arm / hand, and had to learn to do everything with her left
