And elevate it. The bandages were so thick the ice didn't really work. Will this really mess up my recovery? Any suggestions?

Be glad you’re not in the military.
Broken arm? Motrin and hydrate.

Three scopes under my belt... I think the ice is mainly for swelling. I don't think that will affect the healing or the recovery time too much. Man they've gotten so good at it. My first scope was early 80's and you talk about painful... horrible bruising and swelling, too. ...and long, painful rehab. Amazing what Dr's can do now.

Do not remove the bandages. Put the ice on top of it. It will work well enough through the bandages. Trust me.

Mine was wrapped with inches and inches of cottony stuff and then had ace bandages over it for 48 hours ... there was NO icing it. Like my leg was wrapped and was STRAIGHT out.
Try going to the bathroom like that (female here so not so easy). When I could take the bandages off then I iced as instructed.

Follow the RICE method (rest, ice, compression, elevation). It’s worked since the beginning of time.

Get a cold therapy unit. You're welcome

I used one of these cold water circulating pumps that got constant ice cold water going thru the Velcro straps over my bandages. Helped tremendously!!!
