Killing Old Grass and Weeds

I have half of my yard that never had grass or sod put down when we moved in a year ago into a new construction home. Fast forward a year later and its full of weeds and is very thick. I am thinking of using roundup and kill everything and then starting over. I was debating either rototilling or hiring someone to use a tractor and smooth. One guy came and looked that operates tractor and said a box blade wont do a good job. What's the best way to go about this so I have a smooth base to plant grass seed afterwards?

Nvm just read. Cut that shite down low, roundup all of it, once its dead throw sod on it. Use river silt to level where necessary.

If planting grass seed just cut the weeds down and throw out the seed.
Keep the grass cut and the new seed will take over.

Same chemicals as RoundUp, but without "name brand" price hike
1 Gallon : $21.56 vs $126.49

Nothing like planting a bed of nutsedge under your new sod

I tilled mine then leveled with box blade before laying sod but the OB board will give you the best advice

Blades for dirt don't work well with grass.

Bought the best option. Just depends if he wants to pay for it

What kind of grass do you have?
What is your current mow height?

Regrettably, your best play at the moment is to set your entire yard and house on fire.

Don't use roundup! Till or harrow. Herbicide won't kill the weed seed. Start from scratch. Till, level, plant.
Sod or sprig. Seed sucks.
Good luck.

Where do you live? What type of grass? St. Augustine, Bermuda, zoiyza, fescue?

I currently have centipede in the half of yard that was sodded. Just so everyone understands, this area of the yard has never had anything planted or sodded that I am wanting to do. Weeds just grew in on the dirt and have now taken over the whole area.

That's what the guy with a tractor told me. Even if he took a box blade to scrape top layer of weeds out, it would be a mess and likely never get it really smooth for grass seed.
