As a guy, how do you even begin to approach sex with someone who experienced trauma like that?

I feel like I’d be constantly worried about making sure I wasn’t unknowingly dredging up bad memories to the point where it would be such a turn off.

The experience HAD to permanently alter her preferences and kinks in some way. I just wonder to what degree it deviates from “normal” sex between two people who weren’t abused.

You know this shite was thought up by some dumb bitch in HR.

“Heyyy Savvy Sales Savants! To congratulate you on your STELLAR Q3 results, we’ve invited…Elizabeth Smart to come tell you all about how she was kidnapped and molested by a religious psycho!”

What a downer. fricking give me Grant Cardone over her.

I don’t know how she could ever get over getting repeatedly raped in a homeless tent site for several weeks by some old creepy guy and his crazy wife

She didn't go to Disneyland...she went to some spiritual religious party!

This comment makes me laugh.

I got somewhat attached to this case when it happened. We were similar ages. There had been a similar abduction in my hometown a few months before. My father worked in law enforcement for a pretty long time and was pretty involved in that other case. He made the comment, “she was dead within 24 hours.” He’s not a man of many words. He’s not usually wrong when he does speak. When I asked him what he thought after some “what’s new in the Elizabeth Smart Case” 6ish months in or so and the above was his response, I knew he was right, and it was pretty sad to me.

So when it was headline news that she was still alive and safe, my heart jumped. I read several follow up articles. But the one comment that stuck out was talking to her parents (and I think her dad made the comment that is coming), and she either immediately began playing the harp when she got home or performed in concert some short period of time after getting back home (maybe a few weeks). The interviewer asked what it was like to hear her play again after such a long time, and the comment was something to the effect of, “it was pretty obvious she hadn’t practiced in a year.”

So in my brain, she sucks at harp AND motivational speaking, and no one wears the kid gloves when dealing with her. I hope in another 10-20 years I learn another thing she’s terrible at but also have always sincerely thought about her from time to time and thought, “I hope she’s doing ok.”

Honest answer? Almost nothing is off the table right up until the moment that EVERYTHING is off the table.

It's a horrible rollercoaster that's exhausting.
