Traction will take just about anyone just to keep the kids from going to other teams.

Where are you located?

Put a controller in his hands and teach him video games. Streamers make up to 700k a month.

Your youngest got burnt out because he had to spend all that time at your older one's games. My oldest played tourney ball, and my youngest hates baseball... switched to lacrosse in 3rd grade

Band scholarships are worth more than most baseball scholarships.

My nefhew got cut from the football team his freshmen year of high school... he was the biggest kid to try out. When he graduated he was the only player on the team to get scholarship offers for a free four year education just for playing football.
Your kid is crushed but like others said... use it as a learning experience. Good luck.

But clearly, multiple times, he stated his son is 11(ELEVEN) years old.

I didn't read this entire thread, cuz I don't care, but his second post indicated that he was talking about his 6 year old. And again, my point stands. He's fricking 11. Go have him play on a less competitive team. It's not a big deal. At all. He can play another sport. He's 11. frick. He's not trying out for a college team and watching his dreams crumble before him.

Holy crap.

I don't know what is worse.

1) Travel ball for 6 year olds

2) 6 year olds getting CUT from any team

This.

We lost the majority of our boys between 9-11. That’s the age where the talent starts to separate itself.

Then 12-13 is when puberty kicks in and the distances start to really become a gamechanger.

If you let your kid play Rec ball until he is 12, he will be so far behind the other kids that played tournament ball, he wouldn’t even make the first cut.

A kid of average talent will likely be a better player playing travel ball, as opposed to rec ball, simply because travel ball has completely gutted the coaching circuit in rec. I mean, all kid ball is daddy ball, but at least in travel ball, the dads show up to coach. Rec ball struggles these days to even find dads willing to even try to coach.

However, any kid that will play Div 1 baseball or higher, has to have natural talent. Unless the kids high school coach is a political hack who plays favorites (not impossible) the raw talent of the better kid will get him more playing time, even if he came up from rec. And then, that raw talent will show to the college coaches.

Just like Catholic school is great for average students, travel ball is great for average athletes. Really smart kids can go to public school and still succeed, and really talented ballplayers can play rec and still succeed.

One more thing - college coaches constantly talk about how they want kids to play multiple sports when young. For those kids playing travel ball 9-10 months a year, no time for any other sport.

Well it may be to late for any league team and it’ll be hard for him to find a tournament team. Assuming his story is true,, these people fricked his kid over pretty bad.

I’d like to know the team as well

And if you think you can take a 12 year old tournament kid that has only played on tournament teams, and put him head to head against a rec 12 year old, and it would be even relatively close, you, are the dumbass.
Ill take the kids that can run, the kids that have wild strong arms, the kids that hit. I can coach them the rest.

Yes on tryout day the coached player may be superior. But if the raw tools are with the rec player, give me the rec player every single day. Especially if I look over and see Mom and Dad are both y’all muscular people that smile a lot.

Don’t confuse results with ability. You can teach baseball. You can’t teach a 6 foot 4 hard throwing lefty. Or a base stealing center fielder.

Every major leaguer I knew was not the dominant player at 13 years old

Yeah it's kinda late to be cutting kids and finding new players like that. Any kid, who wants to do tournament ball, thats worth a crap is already on a team.

Makes no sense for any kid younger than 12 to be cut from baseball. None. Coached 18 years in little league and the league forced me to cut 2 kids one year. Worst memory of little league. Told them I would quit coaching if the league ever did that again.

There's no excuse to cut kids under 12.

Nah it’s not too late but at 11 years old most majors or AAA teams are and have been already established since they were 8-9

He should be able to find a AA team to jump on with no problem.

The only times I’ve heard of cutting in youth baseball was on High level teams where it was known beforehand that it could happen and it usually doesn’t occur till late in season when the teams are hitting the national tournaments.. this was only for 12 and above that I’ve heard..
