Calm down. You don't know this to be true.
I don't know it to be true so I can only infer what I've seen from three videos and his quotes.
Videos show outrageous actions with an intent to hurt the most important player from more than one kid.
The coach said
quote:
We only handled our own business and we did what we thought was prudent and the right thing to do and we stand by that
quote:
It is my responsibility to be concerned about our players, not others in other school districts
he's saying what he honestly believe's IMO. If he thinks that a half game suspension and shows no concern for an injury deliberately caused by one of his players, under his orders, then he's not fit to teach, coach or be around young people. This guy is what's wrong with high school coaching

OK, I hadn't seen that. Yeah, frick that coach.
This is BS. A good, responsible coach would be concerned for all players on the field.

Are you a football official in LA?

IMO if it was the kids idea then ok, 15 year old kids make mistakes and he was trying to do everything to win and crossed a line, so you punish him more appropriately and move on. The fact that it seems like the coach encouraged and stands by what happened is the worst part and much more concerning.

... But what if the QB is "out of the tackle box"?

Agree. Get the kid some counseling help, but don't give him a lifetime ban. The coach, on the other hand, should never be allowed to coach again, if those quotes are accurate.

I had a couple of coaches that encouraged us to try and take certain players out of the game when I was a kid, I never thought much of it, and it was a fairly common practice back then, yes, I'm old
ETA: was very common to have an "expendable" hatchet man on hockey and basketball teams for just that purpose as well

I had the same thing when I was playing. It's a fine line, but I think there's a difference between a coach telling a player to try to take an opposing player out of a game and a coach being OK with assault. Still not right, but not as bad as a coach not seeing a problem with one of his players choking and assaulting another player on the field.

I'm always amazed how often I hear "he was out of the tackle box" during a game on Friday nights.

in the meantime, he needs to make a formal sincere apology in person to the boy and his family.
Judging from the video, there would be no sincerity in an apology.

why is that?
i'll answer that question for you: because he wasn't raised right and doesn't have good adult role models in his life. which is probably why he is in this situation to begin with.

They're both incredibly wrong and way across the line. Football is an inherently violent sport and people are going to get hurt. For an adult to encourage a kid to injure another kid is just as wrong as a coach condoning assault. They're both incredibly wrong and we need to remove it from all sports.
Fighting in hockey to send a message that a dirty play won't be tolerated is very different IMO. Both players drop the gloves and are ready to fight so be it. They're not out there going at knees trying to hurt ppl and end careers.

There is a coach on that side of the field who is clearly standing there watching it happen and does nothing. Only after a flag is thrown and coaches from the opposite sideline start running across does a coach further down to the right even come on the field. First big guy closest to the action never makes a move.
I'd be stunned if the kid wasn't instructed to pull this. Not the slamming his head to the ground but targeting the kid in question.

Jesus. I was expecting this to be something questionable involving a parent overreacting, but that kid deserves to be suspended for multiple games. If it was a one time thing, I wouldn't have a problem with the punishment, although I think a whole game would have been more appropriate, but this was three different times.
If I were the HC coach of the varsity team, of the JV team with the kid going after the other kid, I would consider kicking him off the team.
