HB 2 contains $2.35 billion worth of building, road, bridge and highway projects, $1.38 billion of which are in line to receive funding this year. It includes several ongoing projects for the Capital Region but makes no mention of the three new megaprojects identified by the local delegation and industry lobbyists as key to addressing gridlock. They include: the widening of Interstate 10 in Ascension Parish, the widening of I-10 through Baton Rouge and a new Mississippi River Bridge south of Baton Rouge.
All may not be lost, but specific identification of the projects would have been nice.

Still, the administration is committed to doing preconstruction work on the three highway projects, according to Louisiana Transportation and Development Secretary Shawn Wilson. He notes that HB 2 contains $55 million that is set aside for nonspecific highway projects, and he suggests some of that money could be directed toward the Capital Region projects.

The lack of master planning in Louisiana has cost our state billions.

Let me translate that.

$55 million to fund "studies" by friends of legislators for projects we will never actually build.

I haven't been to Baton Rouge since football season, so some things may have changed, but:
They spent all this money on widening I-10 through BR south of the 10/12 split to Siegen, but they added no extra lanes. There seems to be plenty of room to add at another lane and still have large shoulders.

They want to expand I-10 in Ascension, but from the Highland exit to Siegen (where the past widening project ended) is 2 lane as it is.

Guess if it happened before November, then I must not have been paying attention (or was heavily inebriated).

ETA - I wasn't driving any of the times.

No surprise. The Louisiana taxpayers usually get screwed when it comes to infrastructure spending....and Baton Rouge metro taxpayers usually get screwed especially hard.
