Katrina Lessons Learned - Move bus fleet to high ground

Most don't remember but outside of not evacuating the City and having a plan for shelters, maybe Nagin's worst failure was keeping the RTA bus fleet in in low lying areas including New Orleans East. Of course every single vehicle was flooded.
New Orleans Busses Lost during Katrina
Glad to see even with the horrible flooding Houston's transit agency was on the ball.
Ahead of Hurricane Harvey, Houston Metro lines up 120 empty buses in Hwy 59 express lane

Don't remember? This was one of the most iconic photos of government failures during the storm

What do you expect from a city ran by Democrats?

Actually, it was a pretty gigantic red herring.
N.O. folks weren't getting on fricking school buses BEFORE Katrina. I don't care how hard anyone would have tried to convince them to do so then.

I know part of this is Texas' local politicians are a lot more competent than Louisiana's for the most part, but also, many lessons were learned by different agencies from Katrina.
Or maybe it's just how bad our local politicians are here in LA, but things seem to be going a little smoother in TX and seems like some things were learned from past experiences. At least speaking in terms of government agencies working together.

It's really not that hard to look more competent than NOLA leaders/crooks that served during Katrina.
I would be willing to bet officials in NOLA left most of the busses in low lying areas because they EXPECTED the Federal Government to replace them with brand new buses.
Footnote: Mayor Nagin is currently incarcerated for other kickbacks.

I'd help spring him if he could replace the current clown in that office.

This wasn't about evacuation, it was about the cost of replacing these buses which you and I and the rest of the taxpayers of America had to pay for because of incompetence. Even 12 years later RTA still hasn't been able to replace all of the buses that were flooded.

Right because when they looked into their crystal ball they knew the levees would break and 80% of the city would flood.

Those aren't RTA buses in that picture.

I am all for appointing crooks, but lets make sure they are at least competent.
I vote for Edwin Edwards.

You don't think elected leaders should prepare for the worst and make contingency plans expecting bad stuff to happen as a Cat 5 storm is approaching a city well known for
being under sea level?
You have high expectations. Interesting.

Is that picture from the airport fake?

Yes. I believe they learned a lot from Katrina.
You have a 24 hour notice......Tell me where would you have moved 300 buses as a CAT 5 storm was approaching your city? Remember you have to move them to a place where they won't flood and they are still accessible after the flood to evacuate the flooded people out the city to a safe and dry location.

He's not that dumb. He knew FEMA would pay to replace the whole fleet. Parked them there on purpose with no intention of using them

I am not from NOLA, so I really can't answer your question about where to park them. Houston had about the same notice NOLA did and magically they made it happen and found a dry place. Rocket science ladies and gentlemen.
I guess it boils down to wanting to serve your constitutents versus just wanting the title and the perks. BR has that same problem with its Mayor right now. Fake it till you make it.
