Then the teaching coaching profession are just as guilty
It’s about the power these positions hold
Yeah it’s attracts predators bc of authority and to abuse that power

If the Pope wants to be progressive and try to seem like the Church is trying to deter shite like this from happening moving forward, he needs to allow priests to marry.
We're getting there. There's a couple of hundred married priests in the U.S. alone. Mostly Episcopal priests who converted. There are Eastern European orders that allow priests to marry, the Pope is now allowing them to be priests outside of their home countries.

I have an anti-religion friend who's a teacher. He lost his shite when I brought that up.

I prayed to God the other night to help me make sure that nothing I ever say or type would play a part in standing between a person and their faith in God.
That said, I think the fact that the overwhelming majority of Catholics aren't in open revolt of the Catholic Church speaks to the level of indoctrination to the belief in the deity of the church itself, rather than that of God.
That list represents a systemic failure, and it's only a miniscule portion of the problem.

I grew up with a bunch of those priests. Was an altar boy for at least three, was taught by one, a couple are practically family. Not doubting the allegations, but we never heard anything about any of these guys from any of the other kids
There is no doubt that some of these allegations are false. That’s a huge part of the problem. This would be easy if all allegations were obviously true.
Hopefully we will be able to easily determine the guiltybfrom the falsely accused.

Oh well
It’s true
Granted it’s more females that do it as teachers but it’s still abuse of power

These priests are molesting small kids. Teachers are banging 16 year old dudes. Not a comparison.

Read the specific allegations for each priest. Some of the minors were 16. One of them was a college student. If you think the teachers and coaches aren’t targeting kids and young teens then you are mistaken.

Of course they do, but have all of the parish and county school boards across the U.S. worked together to protect the coaches and teachers for decades as the Catholic church did with the priests?

Actually no, most of the allegations are priest molesting 12-17 year old boys, so the same ages as the teachers
They are using their position of power to form gay relationships with these kids.

They're not structured as one entity as the church is.
But they're sued all the time for keeping alleged pedophiles in the classroom or moving them out to teach somewhere else.
It's not the same ratio, but his argument that teachers and coaches are just sleeping with consenting 16 year olds is false.

This right here. There's no coincidence that a profession that bars you from getting married attracts people who are ok with not getting married. Who is ok with not getting married (until recently with gay marriage)? Generally, guys who were into guys, or sexual deviants.
Obviously, there are priests who are truly men of God and followed the call with a pure heart.

Gilbert Gauthe
That’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time. He was the first priest in the U.S. to face trial for sexual abuse. He served only 10 years under a plea bargain deal.
He got out and continued to molest boys.
