Frats at my school were just that
They would kick football players out of their parties. Which is fine, their party their rules. So football players started our own bar called Old Rips. It got popular. The bouncers were our big lineman. Bouncers wouldnt let any frat guys through, which technically they were supposed to because most of the frat guys werent 21. They would steal their fake IDs. The frat guys would melt and it was hilarious. Sucks when the shoe is on the other foot.

I've never understood this argument. It just screams jealousy. It's a pretty objective fact that athletes and Greeks are the two most desired groups on most big southern campuses.

I'll give you the alcoholics claim. That's more common than it should be. As for drug using and rapists - it's no more than the average non-affiliated student. It's likely less, honestly.

Bruh, the last one of those big conventions I went to Nationals had an old brother from like the 60's & former Olympic athlete as a guest speaker. Total fricking bro. The guy started recounting his glory days of hazing pledges and the entire crowd of college kids cheered like LSU just beat Bama. Likewise, the guys in charge of the National office reacted like a bunch of SJW's at a Trump rally. It was glorious.

When i visited friends at TCU, tons of their members played football and baseball.. this was before your time so maybe it changed..

Pretty sure the rule is Patterson only let you be in a frat if you rushed before joining/making the team as a walk on or if you were a legacy
We would have walk ons who would make the team after having rushed. Funny thing is pretty much all of them quit football so they could spend more time with their frat
I had one teammate who was a Kappa Sig, who quit before the 2009 season and later hung himself in 2011. Drug use did him in. Yeah his frat was a real winner. Leading him down the path of drug use and suicide

I couldn't give a shite about someone smoking pot or whatever. I'm not presenting an argument for drug use one way or another, I was merely saying that they've become pussified in general. Rushing and pledging is a very different process now. Parties, mixers, formals are handled somewhat differently now. It's just moving in a very PC direction.
