This guy in front of me brings back 4 cartons of strawberries, the cashier looks incredibly pissed and gives the guy a refund. I asked the cashier if people were allowed to bring back old produce and she said that the guy in front of me had purchased the strawberries 2 weeks ago, his reason for bringing them back was because "he didn't use them." She said that their managers make them take it back and that one guy actually brought the fat scraps of a steak back, asked for a refund because it was tough and their manager made them refund the guy.

Unfortunately most places do this. The scene caused by trashy people isn't worth the few dollars they are ultimately stealing from the business.

I worked in a grocery store in college and we had to refund everything just like the OP described.

Managers in retail are generally spineless and will do anything just to avoid a confrontation with a customer.

I would say but I shop there all the time and don't want word to get out to any freeloaders.

Eh...they can resell it so it's not like they are out. Though that doesn't make it any less shitty to do IMO.

No lie. I once witnesses someone bring back what appeared to be a five year old laptop via the specs on the side of the box and received full credit of $1300.
