Man, my best friend is from the West Bank and we talk mad shite to each other. We both worked the refineries there for years before landing on the north shore. I hate the WB with a passion but I just put the book you mentioned in my Amazon cart. I love local and Louisiana history so I’m gonna read it and probably gift my friend a copy for his wife to read to him.

Pick any part of the East bank of NOLA. Now walk east to the Atlantic Ocean. Let me know when you are forced to swim across the Mississippi River.

Ok, it ends in “o’s” and was a restaurant. I was 6 lived in Metairie and we ate there on the way to visit friends in Barataria. I got a big stack of pancakes and orange juice. My mom advised against it and when we got out in the parking lot I had a good puke session before getting in the car. Should’ve listened to mom.

I remember when it was called the Eatery. Such an appetizing name.

. If you straightened the river out, then you would see, clearly, that the banks are named appropriately.

Ok... since it isn't "straightened".., point stands.. downtown New Orleans is west of the Westbank

I dated a girl for six months (freshman year of college for us both).

We broke up and have never spoken since (40+ years).

Recently she wrote a series of books about us back then, an alternative ending.

I come off well in them.

I mean, I guess I see what you mean...but it's only because of the quirky path the river takes at New Orleans.

It was meant to be an "easy" way to describe where cities lay in relation to the river, with the understanding that the river does not always flow N/S, like New Orleans, where it flows N/S, W/E, then N/S again...thus creating the crescent shape.

Is the city West of certain parts of the Westbank, sure.

Is the city on the Eastbank - without a doubt.

But there are no parts of the West Bank east of the river.

Yes there are. In fact, both clauses of your sentence cannot be true at the same time.

The division between the two sides is the river. The river has a bank on its east side, and a bank on its west side. The banks don’t switch sides as the river meanders!
