Went to Walmart's website and looked for the same items. They not only had them, but a couple of them were available to pick up at the store that is only 5 miles from my house.

While OP’s complaints are petty and ridiculous, Amazon really set the golden standard for Customer Service in the past. I think they are still very good and one of the best, but have certainly gone downhill.
it was obviously better when Amazon was more exclusive and growing.
now that they are at the top there’s
1) less need to invest in top customer service
2) the volume of customers makes it almost impossible to keep that same level
3) the more Amazon expanded into the lower class population, the returns and customer service experience had to change. it’s a stereotype, but those demographics of customs “take advantage” of generous policies which will begin to cost money if you don’t adapt

Don't worry, they'll build a monstrosity of a "warehouse" near you and then delivery times will go from 5-6 days to 8-12 days. You will search and search, but you will never be able to find anything for sale on Amazon that ships from that warehouse. You will know that by the fact that same day or next day delivery is nonexistent. Meanwhile, the Amazon Prime that you've paid for will remain useless because actual Prime delivery is a rarity now and Amazon has jacked up their prices to almost cover the cost of "free shipping".
Pro tip:
If you actually need something, find what you want and then find a direct from manufacturer or a good dealer's website. Buy it from them. Even when you pay the shipping costs it will be roughly the same price as Amazon, and you will almost always get it sooner. Pay with PayPal if you want to have some protections.

On Christmas Eve, I ordered 3 things. Got back home last night and check my Amazon account and noticed two of the three, were expected to be received on 1/3 so I cancelled them
Stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. You need it that badly?

Amazon delivery has been infected by the same scourge that makes USPS, FedEx, and UPS miserable to deal with.
Maybe, but when it takes them 4 days just to process an order, then it has to actually make it through the shipping process, Prime delivery is a myth. The time that Amazon takes to process an order is now longer than what Prime delivery used to be as a whole. This was starting be a problem even before Covid.

I, now, order from the companies themselves unless the Amazon price is strikingly lower.

Jesus dude, do you really need that $25 right now? Are you that poor? Just wait.
I returned an unopened Galaxy S22+to Best Buy to rebuy for the $800 trade in credit. The clerk kept telling me I don't want to do that b/c the $800+ wouldn't be refunded to my credit card for 5-6 business days. I told him IDGAF b/c I'm not poor

Welcome to 2016. Amazon has been dog shite for a while.
Walmart & EBay have stepped up their game.

Same here. Ordered a couple gifts for my grandbabies from Amazon Prime. Ordered on 17th, guaranteed by Christmas with an estimated delivery of 21st from NY. Tracking shows it sat at Sellers until 23rd before PU. Then changed delivery date to 24th. No show. Christmas morning shows delivery date of 1-3. After finally getting to a real person, she offers refund in Amazon credit immediately or refund to my account in 5-7 days. I told her it came out of my account immediately at purchase and I expect the same with the credit. She then said she would issue immediate credit and was in my account within an hour. Also said she cancelled my order and no need to return. So all is well.

Why do people order so late during the busiest shipping time of the year, then berate customer service people for refunds for your laziness and procrastination.
The entire process is slower and more expensive because of shite like this. The package you are getting refunded is now going to have to get shipped around and eventually back to the seller or a wholesaler so it costs them more to operate, Amazon more to operate and the shipping companies more to operate all because you couldn’t just wait a week for your package

Amazon shouldn't lie about the delivery date

I usually add a couple days to the projected delivery simply because the USPS is a shithole outfit.
Kent, Washington is a black hole of USPS disappearances.

The last 10+ plus orders I've had on Amazon, dating back to at least September, have all taken a minimum of three days just to process. The past three or four didn't even get shipped for 4 and 5 days. It then took at least another four to get to me. I'm currently averaging 8 days for shipping, and I have a warehouse pretty close by.
You can't push Prime delivery when your processing times are longer than the actual Prime delivery window used to be. Amazon's insistence upon using UPS Surepost is another shite decision. It may be the worst shipping option available, and uses the USPS for the final leg of delivery to an address.
