My son completed boot camp at Paris Island about 8 years ago. I thought I was proud of him when he left for boot camp.

But then he walked out in formation at the graduation ceremony. That first glimpse of him brought on some water works that I haven’t experienced in a looooong time. I was truly flooded with emotions of pride.

Congratulations on raising a son and a Marine.

And remember, no news is good news. He may not write many letters. But you do. I sent four to five a week. Give him an escape for just a minute.

Having been in your son’s position in San Diego in 1989, I could NOT agree more with this advice. Nothing beats the Drill Instructor calling out your name during mail call.

I hope you gave him sound advice.

You should write him a letter and tell him. He needs to address the Senior Drill Instructor directly.

Let the DI know he is not there for any bullshite. He is there to learn. He needs to tell the DI to save the bullshite for the idiots. He does not need it.

Should be a pleasant trip through for him once the DI knows he has a serious Marine on his hands.

Congrats Judge and good job getting him this far.

We got our late night phone call back in October from Great Lakes, IL, when our son joined the Navy.

Graduation ceremony in December was nothing short of awesome.

Props to all military families

Congrats to your son. Next few weeks will suck but it's all a mental game. Tell him to embrace the suck and drive on.

I see you have 3 down votes. Who in the would down vote this. Even if they are super liberals who hate the military you would think they could least appreciate that you are proud of your son. I hope these down voters are captured and tortured by terrorists

Send him king cake.

My sister was nice enough to send me two King Cakes while I was in Basic Training (Army). I had to stand at the door and hand feed everyone in my platoon a piece after mail call.

the other poster is serious about the letters - they make a tremendous difference. I went into Navy boot right out of high school at Great Lakes, and the letters I got often was such a great feeling. sadly i got discharged after completing Boot due to an injury, but the time spent matured me up and was worth the time I was there - and graduating in front of my family was such an awesome moment.

man just reflecting on this makes me think of my dad, who we almost lost this past weekend. he was in the Navy in Morocco back in the day, and being able to make him proud like I did is one of the greatest accomplishments I feel I could have ever done for him.

thank you to you for raising your son as you have, and more importantly thank him for his service.

My little cousin joined in 2010. 2 years after me. I sent him a care package with gay porn and a huge dildo. DI made him walk around with a dildo in his pocket for a week.

Sounds dumb but it's just some Marine Corp humor. Embrace the suck

Getting a letter sprayed with your gf's perfume, while it won't be issuing any boners, was nice.

lol ok...I wouldve happily traded the sand fleas for mountains.

Stand there and get bit, nobody move or to the pit.

And to the OP, the king cake thing. My SDI wanted king cake for everyone. So my family brought it up after family day. My DI's gave it to us in the barracks after. I was certain it was a trap, but it wasnt.

How many stress fractures did y’all see from standing there being bitten by sand flies?

Those mountains were beautiful, btw
