It's one of if not the most venomous caterpillars in the US. One stung my dad on the neck while we were playing golf and had to bring him to the ER. He's had multiple surgeries, fell out of a deer stand, and has had like 30 kidney stones and told the ER nurse it was the worst. They gave him 2 or 3 Percocet and it didn't touch it. Serious shite.

This is a good thread. As I mentioned earlier, I know all about buck moth caterpillars, but I don't recall learning about the puss moth. I probably would have petted the stupid thing.

I've been stung by a couple fuzzy caterpillars before. It fricking sucks.
If it happens, get ice, and hold it on the spot. It helps with the swelling, and reduces the sting.

Yep! Those suckers sting! Occasionally get them from a neighbor's tree. As a kid I got stung by them a bunch, one time in the back of the head. That one hurt something fierce!
We used to call them Sheephead caterpillers.
