This exact scenario happened to my moms brother. I been on 23 and me for years now, bc when we decided to have kids I was curious about my geneology bc we don’t know dads real dad and family at all only his step dads side of the family. Well about a year ago I log on and see someone connected to me who the site says is my first cousin, so I called my mom and sure enough the guy was my uncles son from a one night stand. He was also raised by his grandparents. Apparently the mom always lied to him about who his dad was until
He found my uncle on 23andme. Wait your not my uncle are you? Jk.

Bet you wish you didn't do Ancestry DNA now, huh?

Didn’t think people would voluntarily give DNA samples to a company like that. Guess I was wrong.

By far the fastest of all dictators. It was scary...all the sadistic nature of Saddam Hussein, and raw athleticism of Usain Bolt!

But seriously, OP should let the kid know of any relevant medical history that runs in his side of the family, even if there’s no relationship to be had.

hat I was completely unaware of. Turns out I have an adult child in his 30's now from a one night stand from when I was a teenager. Never ever knew. Never saw the girl again and went on to college and married, have a family.
Haven't had a conversation with him, but his wife contacted me to let me know he's out there. What should I be worried about? Any advice from anyone that's ever been in this situation? Curious if this has happened to anyone now that Ancestry/23& Me is so popular.

Wife knows and understands I was very young and never knew. She's not upset at all.

I personally know too many people that got some crazy news from this. I’m not submitting to a DNA profile without a court order.

Ditto. legit could have a few chirrens running around out there myself, too.

Elaborate on a few stories if you don’t mind. Literally did not know this would be a result of these dna sites.

his mom is and was a whore
What does that make the dad as he also slept with someone he barely knew? A hero? A champion? Why do women get called out for behavior that men are celebrated for? Just curious.

This is OT gold right here:

"Make sure he is genetically yours first.

Then reach out and offer to meet up for lunch."

I’d want a second opinion, I don’t think that’s too much to ask

If no financial or legal entanglements, and really only family health being the only thing itd effect... it’ll sound crazy but why not just roll with it and decide whether you are going to be involved based on your gut/heart.

If you opt in and it’s great, awesome, no real harm in not being 120% sure

If you opt out you were opting out anyway

True story, buddy of mine ran a shop in East TX. A girl walks in one day and asked, are you....? He said, yes ma’am, what can I do for you? She said, you’re my dad. Same scenario, one night deal, he’s married with kids also. He told his wife when he got home, she said, I’m not surprised. Did the DNA test, and confirmed the results. He brought her over to introduce the new sibling to his kids at Christmas. He has a good sense of humor, told his kids he got them a sister as a gift.

Guys don't realize they are already screwed on the DNA thing. You don't have to submit your own DNA for this to happen. All it takes is one family member doing it and then they use familial DNA to track you down. There are countless criminals and fathers being outed because a relative submitted their DNA
