It was an awesome book but it's such a tragedy for the Confederacy that he was lost in such a horrible accident
Someone make me feel better by telling me that even if he had lived forever the south still would have eventually been defeated by the North's superior resources so I don't feel so heartbroken over his death
Many of the man's accomplishments and successes were so unfathomable that it almost makes you wonder if he had supernatural assistance (he would certainly say that he did) but I just can't believe he could've saved the CSA by himself
Btw, and I know this will be futile, let's try to avoid commenting on the south being right or wrong ITT. The moral issues are complicated and it always details these threads

There was several ways the south could have one, if Jackson had been in charge instead of Lee the war wouldn't have even lasted two years.
Completely contrasting battle plans between the two.

Thought this was the Billy Idol unauthorized biography.

Any other recommendations of books similar to Rebel Yell?

James Robertson Jr's bio of Jackson is the standard.

Exactly. There wouldn't have been a Confederate army left to defend Richmond with if Jackson had been in command instead of Lee.

Can you explain this to me? Need to get more well read on the civil war.

And how do you figure that, once Washington was taken terms would have been agreed upon quickly. Quick and decisive victories and taking northern territory was must for a Southern victory. A long drawn out war was the last thing the south needed.

A lot of people say that it was Lee's boldness/resourcefulness that kept the CSA in the war for as long as they did. Also, if Lee were to have been a Union general, the USA would've won very quickly due to Lee's tenacity, a trait that the union lacked in their officer corps.
Some say that with Jackson's presence, Lee wouldn't have to rely so much on Longstreet so much and could've been more successful. Longstreet was a defensive general, more in the mold of Wellesley, while Lee and Jackson were in the mold of Napoleon.

Had he lived I think Lee would have won Gettysburg, and the South the war.

The South wins if they do either of the following:
March on Washington after the first battle of Bull Run.
Take Little Round Top on the first day of fighting at Gettysburg. They do either one, they likely win the war. Many scholars contend that Jackson would have recognized the importance of that hill and taken it day one rather than allowed the union to fall back to it and fortify it. If the South wins at Gettysburg, they break the back of the only army between them and Washington, plus they are able to resupply (especially re-shoe) using the railroad line at Gettysburg. CSA marches on Washington and McClellen likely defeats Lincoln in the election and peace and southern independence is achieved.

To be fair Lee wasn't in charge from the beginning

Real foreign help would have been nice also.

What if the CSA would've used Forrest more?
