Now that my niece and goddaughter is getting to be 5, I'm finding out her favorite toy companies, buying stock, and giving her some fake certificates. It's fun because I get to show her that she's helping to invest in her favorite toys.

i became a godfather recently and we bought them a bunch of clothes.

also bought the other child a bunch of shite that makes a ton of racket.

Lifetime hunting/fishing license

If you are a baller I would go with lifetime license like Dorthy said.
If you are like me do savings bonds for first 5 birthdays and xmas's.
There will be plenty enough ppl giving them shite that will be thrown away within a year.

get him something that will be meaningful later on in life. for the first year in life, kids pretty much do nothing but cry, eat, and shite, so there is no point in buying anything fancy that he will never have any recollection of...if you buy a present at this point in his life, you are really only doing it to please mom.

as some of the others say, lifetime license is good. start a savings account...buy some savings bonds...maybe Louisiana has some kind of state tax free college savings plan?...
