To advance the story line. Jules hit the bump, then boom. Perhaps the better question is why did he have his gun out, resting on the back of the seat like that. You'd think that a hit man, with a great familiarity of guns, would have had his pistol put away.

I've had the burgers at IHOP before and I always thought they were pretty good. There's a reason so many fast food chains started coming out with diner style burgers like the "Six Dollar Burger". If it's after 11 pm and you want a burger it beats the hell out of most of the other options that are still open and serving food.
