Public transportation to work is MUCH better than driving. I have been riding the train for past year and a half and although my commute is technically longer, it feels much quicker and more comfortable.
I know Louisiana doesnt have a good public transportation system, but get it on the ballot, its worth it. No expensive insurance fees, no stress.

I have an hour ride each way to work. I'd love to be able to hop on a train to make the trip instead of driving every day.

I wish I could take the DART in Dallas, but this is unfortunately true. Tons of poor and homeless and with all the damn crazies running around these days your confined in a small space. Somebody could pick off dozens in seconds so I'll just drive. It's cheaper and don't have to deal with traffic/parking with public transport.

I mean for you sure. For me my 20 minute commute would turn into:
20 minute walk to the bus stop
15 minute wait for the bus
45 minutes across town
Hitchhiking across the river
Then am I supposed to walk 50-100 miles a day to make sales calls?

You don't honestly consider the street car good public transportation, do you?
I have a co-worker who rides it every day to get to work. He's rarely on time because it is so unpredictable. Plus, if a driver has to shite, they literally hop off, leave the street car idle (blocking other cars), and go shite.
The street car is a novelty, not a viable option for public transportation.
