So sorry for your loss that one’s hard. When you let a little time pass, consider adopting a rescue. We have after losing two of them after 17 years and it was a good decision. We also made a little gravesite with a plaque with their picture on it outside in a garden where we buried their ashes. And for the kids, I created a Mixbook album of their photos.

I’m so sorry for your loss. 14 years is proof you gave your dog a great life! I learned of the quote “ If you didn’t have them you wouldn’t lose them “ long ago. Having them is an absolute joy and though the end is rough I’ll take having them every time. Sorry guy.

He didn’t say it was “worse”, at least not in the part you quoted- he said “there’s no pain like it”.. and i agree, losing a dog is a unique type of pain , not comparable really to losing a human .

He said there's no pain in the world like it. Losing a dog is one of the toughest pains there is. Hell I will tear up thinking about the last two dogs I lost. They both got me through some hard times. It's a tough sense of loss and deep pain. But yea, there are pains in the world like it, some even worse... like losing a loved human family member. Not trying to take away from the OP's loss.

sorry for your loss man. mine has been at the vet since Friday. she was fine, and then in 3 days went from OK, to not keeping anything down.

turns out she is apparently Diabetic now and we had no idea cause she showed so adverse symptoms.

honestly thought we were going to lose her, but may get to bring her home tomorrow.

all I know is this house has a void I was not ready to accept when she was here.

all the best man - it isn't easy

It is unique in the type of pain it invokes

“Dogs’ lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion.
There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price.” – Dean Koontz

I’m very sorry for your loss

True, but i can definitely say that the 15 yrs i had with my boy were some of the very best years of my life, before i had to make the decision to say goodbye to him recently .

“He spoke thru tears
Of 15 years, how his dog and him
Traveled about
His dog up and died
He up and died
After 20 years he still grieves”

My thoughts are with you.

The bond between man and dog is a special, uncomplicated form of friendship. I've been where you are, and will eventually be there again.

The only bad thing about a dog is that their lives are too short.

That’s a quote and I can’t remember who said it, but it’s 1000% true.

Sorry for your loss. Lost my boy of 15 years back in January. It still hurts, but just slightly less each month. It sucks. My condolences.
