Chicago police are investigating the brutal incident as a hate crime.
How brutal is an “attack” that only scratches you?

Pretty sure that would leave more than a scratch.

The point of a blanket party is to case little or no visible damage.

When officers showed up at the apartment, the rope was still around Smollett’s neck, said [police spokesman] Guglielmi, who described the rope as a “thin, light rope.” Guglielmi said the rope didn’t necessarily resemble a noose.
So dude was wearing a hemp necklace when he went out that evening?

While they did use soap in FMJ, oranges or a golf ball wrapped in a couple more socks do a much better job of leaving no traces.

The length people go is laughable

Also, if they were so concerned with not leaving evidence of the attack, dousing him in bleach and sending him off with a noose around his neck seem like tactical errors.

First, I think this is wholly fiction until it is proven otherwise.
Second, while I was not suggesting he got a blanket party on Chicago streets in sub-zero weather there was a modicum of truth in my post in that one can take a helluva beating and only show a scratch on the face especially prior to bruising developing from body blows. Do I think that is what happened, no, but the lack of visual damage to the face is not proof that it didn't.

Ok. That's why I asked before wading in.

Even in the remote case, I wasn't suggesting "they" were attempting to limit visual damage, my point was in response to you saying a blanket party would leave a lot of damage, when the point of a "proper" blanket party is to prevent visual evidence.
Again, I am not suggesting anything like this actually happened just pointing out what does not rise to my standard of proof that something did not happen. This is a case, however, where I feel there needs to be proof that it did happen before I am moved.

I live in Indiana just outside of Chicago, if this supposedly happened in rural Indiana, or Illinois, I might believe it, but not in the loop Chicago at 2am.

I understand your point. My point is that a blanket party 'prevents visual evidence' because the evidence is concealed by clothing most of the time. Not because it doesn't leave marks.
In any case, it's veering off-topic.

UPDATE: Chicago police have confirmed a @TMZ report to @ABC that a neighbor of Smollett's did come forward with information. Her description of a man she said she saw with a rope of some kind was "significantly different" than one provided by Smollett.

I’ll go on record...
It’s going to be 2 black men that tried to rob him and used a piece of rope to strangle him
No MAGA men
No nooses
Definitely a botched grinder hookup
Maybe a footlong meatball sub with light mayo
He didnt want to tell security, “hey I was going to meet up with some random guys to get fricked in the arse and they jumped me”. Later he calls his agent who creates the plan to say it was homophobic MAGA men with a noose.
Plot twist: he told them to bring the rope to tie him up

Trump actually had to waste time answering a question on this yesterday.
