When some observers pleaded for caution in the Smollett case, their prudence was condemned as bigotry. Rewire’s Kieran Scarlett called “the avalanche of speculation that he’s lying” an “attack” on Mr. Smollett’s black and gay identities. GQ’s Joshua Rivera said “America’s choice to embrace the blind rage of late-stage whiteness in decline is an explicit longing for this kind of crime.” Sarah Kate Ellis, the president and chief executive of Glaad, said the actor had been “doubly victimized” by the police investigation. When the conservative columnist Cameron Gray compiled a list of prominent politicians and entertainers blaming America’s political culture for Mr. Smollett’s ordeal, Representative Bobby Rush called it an attempt “to trivialize the attack.” As Mr. Rivera wrote in GQ, when the police described the attack as a “possible hate crime,” it was just another “wound inflicted on Smollett’s battered body.

This is the bullshite that I'm talking about. Even the presumption of innocence or ambiguity is considered to be evil. These are the people that control culture, media, and a large chunk of politics. They're all a bunch of authoritarian dickbags.

I agree with you both.

I think that's why this story is so interesting to me. The power of the media and the political bigwigs is amazing and scary AF.

As much as the hard left likes to talk about "speaking truth to power" or castigating people for "having positions of power" and nonsense of the like, they'll completely deny what the writer said here:

quote:

This case is an object lesson in what happens when people in positions of political and cultural authority abandon critical thinking and pressure those who don’t abandon their circumspection under pain of being smeared as bigots. It also exemplifies the tendency of those arbiters to amplify “perfect crimes” that advance their political agenda — and to ignore crimes that don’t

This is exactly why Robin Roberts did that interview.

She left ethics and moral standards behind just to advance herself and I'm sure that's just how it was sold to her by her friend JS.

This is some fricked up shite. Just goes to show you how thought processes can be twisted to justify a worldview.

According to Yahoo, he is being cut from his show Empire. LOL

I had read that part of the motivation for this thing in the first place was that he thought he was getting written out of the show...but the show said absolutely not. Now he's apparently created the one thing he thought was happening before in trying to prevent the thing that wasn't happening.

I think she was legitimately blinded by her gay black friend because gay/black/lesbian causes are obviously near and dear to her heart. But, if you can't put those things aside and put your journalist hat on, then you shouldn't be a journalist.

Same thing with Kamala Harris the other day. The "journalists" following her were out clowning around and shopping together. The press has zero integrity anymore which is why it's hilarious to watch them lose their shite when Trump calls them out on it.

You get my point though, right?

It’s like comparing some country bumpkin preacher with 12 congregants to Creflo Dollar and his 64-million dollar jet and televangelism.

I do get your point, and it wasn't ever my intent to equate anything on broadcast media to my example with my dad. Simply it was to illustrate that a similar disinformation mindset driven by political persuasion exists on both sides.

But I digress. It's not worth going down the rabbit hole on it.

That would be great but I think the show denied it as to not give away the plot

Although the way this story has been going it might be true

I said that before. I think she legit thought he was telling the truth which if so says a lot about her.

And as for Kamala, that was stupid on her part as well but she will be forgiven and if runs in 2020 against a Bernie or a Gillibrand, she will win.

It’s about scale though. The leftist mainstream propaganda is FAR more prevalent and invasive than the right wing, which is basically meme warfare

Mr. Geragos sometimes a leak is just a leak..He is trying to blame the cops for a set-up? That interview on GMA was better than a police report.

I think they're going to go with this angle and say it was to prove a point and was sort of an social experiment.

Outlandish but it will have to be.

I think he's trying the only real angle he's got left.
