Nothing worse than opening my news feed every Monday and seeing a bunch of 8 year olds with colored "eye black" and oversized plastic rings from some made up "championship" that weekend. And the flat-bill wearing coaches laughing all the way to the bank. Truly cringeworthy.

Hey all of my Braxtyns and Jaylyns are going to play for the Yankees one day. You watch your whore mouth!

My son plays tournament ball and enjoys it. The Mrs. and I enjoy watching him do something he enjoys with kids his age. After next week season is over and it is hunting season where I probably throw away more money doing it than baseball. So I get to enjoy year round activities with my son. Couldn't ask for anything better.

This weekend was my daughters' dance recital. Which also means it was my annual opportunity to try to figure out how just how much these "owners" of the studio are clearing in net profit.

I'd say 200 kids go to the studio, paying an average of $500 a year in tuition. I know they make a commission on the costumes, dancewear, and pictures. Kids sell ads and picture space in the book. All kids pay an additional $125 to cover the costs of the revue. Studio recently bought their own building, so they have a mortgage and operating costs, and they pay the other teachers.

But it seems like they probably clear $50K a year in profit.

Talk about a waste. Paying all that money to murder innocent animals. SMH.

My kid plays tournament ball and I’m one of the coaches. Another friend of mine that coached with me since t-ball got tired of all the BS that went on at our local league and started a team. We are done for the summer already. Keep prices to a minimum, just brought to cover expenses and play about 7 tournaments. Finish at first of summer so we can have off for fishing and vacation time. We got a decent little team, but we by no means think any of our kids are doing it for a scholarship. Lol. Just good group of kids and parents that have been having fun together for about 5 years off and on

My son plays regionals in BR in two weeks, then we’re done. Done, done. He’s retiring from tournament ball at the ripe old age of 13.

Between me and my two sons we got 4 deer last year sitting in our freezer. But watching both my sons kill their 1st deer was exciting. Both still talk about it and ready for this year. Great times.

Used to be that tournament ball was only for all-stars. Now, so many people are running away from local leagues. It's kinda like white flight. Everytime coaches like you leave the local leagues, it just makes the local leagues even worse.

I'm not really blaming you... just making an observation.

I agree with you. We talked about it for 2 years before we finally did it, because we enjoyed playing local and most of the people there. Hell we were both board members, but when enough of a clique builds up that isn’t doing it for the kids and just doing it for the glory and pats on the back, it makes it hard to hang around.

$3K per year to make sure that Hayden and Cooper get that D1 scholarship - meanwhile mom and dad don't have anymore retirement funds.

I'm with you on the making fun of travel ball parents, but if 3K/year requires you to dip into your retirement then you're too poor for my support.
