You can't see how a town that rebuilds after a fire also decides to build a memorial in the process that it dedicates to soldiers it lost in a war?

Not my post to respond to but I think you are a coward as well. Here are my reasons.
You do not contribute debate. You set 1-2 sentence gotcha traps attempting to get the feeble minded to say something stupid. When they do this pleases and sustains you.
Outside of that you contribute nothing. 1-2 sentence gotchas. That is it.

Not at all. Never am. I'm trying to understand how a city not rooted in the confederacy in 1861 waited for a fire in 1910 to honor the losing legacy of the CSA. And how - as many say - you can't dare erase history when it's not even LC's history. If someone wanted to learn about the CSA in LC, read a book. Staring at a statue won't be a textbook whatsoever.

We have two beams from the twin towers in a 9/11 memorial. That's not LC history even though one LC native was lost that day. Should we take down the 9/11 memorial too since it's not our history? We could just go read about it like you suggest.

As I have explained, to the misfortune of your emotional theory, which I suppose serves sort of personal need, loathe would I be to comment on whatever personal inadequacy it salves, that the monument gained meaning as the veterans died off, and the memory of the war faded.
Southerners were also in a position to pay for monuments at that point. Which was not true in the decades immediately after the war.
And why did monuments resonate? The Confederacy was very popular. It achieved total mobilization during the war. Everyone who could serve did. And the sacrifice they made was severe. The South lost more men per capita than Germany did in WW2. And that’s not counting the wounded and the maimed. For more than a century following the war, it was common for southern families to decorate the graves of the dead on decoration day.

My biggest problem with all this liberal bullshite is them just saying these statues represent racism and hate and they just take them down or tear them down. Let the people from the area or city vote on this and if they vote to take it down then take it down. frick this we feel disrespected and oppressed. These liberal people are just making the rules as they go frick the laws or anything from the past.
