Judge, attorney call for removal of Confederate monument at Calcasieu Courthouse

The South’s Defenders Memorial Monument was put on the lawn of the Calcasieu Courthouse in 1915, to honor the Confederate war dead of Southwest Louisiana.
But today, for some, it is a symbol of injustice and hatred.

"The world has changed, not just in the last few days, in the last few weeks. So, I’m willing to do whatever it takes and I’m just pleading with any right-thinking folk to join me in getting it done. And I think those right-thinking folks realize that monument has no place on the courthouse grounds and it's time for it to go," he said.
“Imagine you’re a black man and you’re going to trial and you have to pass by a Confederate monument every time you go into the courtroom, do you feel like you’ve got equal protection under the law? I would submit that you don’t,” said Clemons.

This is the kind of thing that actually pisses me off. You wanna tear down statues of what are more or less mythical statue heroes (Lee, Jackson, Davis, etc.), ok. I still don’t like it but ok.
But something like this that isn’t honoring an individual but just in general all the young men who died? frick you.
Same thing with the statue we have on campus at Ole Miss that everyone has been itching to get rid of. It honors no specific person, it honors our students (i believe the entire school except like 2 dudes) who all volunteered for the south and experienced a 100% casualty rate. 100%.
ETA: The majority of those casualties during Pickett’s charge. They were in the 11th Mississippi of the army of northern Virginia, known as the University Greys

That’s a nice statue. It’s not commemorating anyone specific but a group of people from that area who fought in the war, by the way, are considered US veterans.
Why is this judge to commenting on this? I thought judges kept personal politics to themselves while on the bench.

Pretty sure NO ONE going into the courthouse for a criminal proceeding had a fricking clue the monument was even there, much less what it was for.

I don't know dick about Calcasieu Parish, is there a WW1 memorial?
I see online there was an airfield and a plaque commemorated there on 2012.
