There's quite a difference between Gretna and parts of Harvey.

Never lived on the Westbank but for the past year have gone over there twice a week. There are parts of Algiers that can be considered a shithole too, but that's NOLA's problem.

There was a recent shooting near the WalMart on Behrman, only it wasn't a cop.

Dailymail is possibly the best news site on the internets.

Yeah not sure why the Mail would report on this. I mean it isn't a common occurrence, but it isn't that uncommon either for a cops to be shot in the line of duty. I'm sure dozens are killed a day across English speaking countries and EU nations.

I wasn't judging the quality of the site. It just struck me as odd that someone would link that to update a breaking purely local type story.

Think that shooting was at the movie theater near Walmart.

For the most part the bad areas on the westbank are part of Algiers (edge of Algiers Point running south along river), Harvey (near Walmart toward Harvey Canal), Woodmere, and Marrero (Ames Blvd.).

I live in old Gretna where it is pretty safe.

Terrytown isn't looking too good these days eithelr. The unincorporated parts of the westbank have been declining for quite some time. Gretna and Westwego are doing alright but it's only a matter of time before they're completely surrounded by trash.

This!

I also live in old Gretna. Have lived here my entire life. While I don't think the Westbank is as bad as many make it out to be, I wouldn't live anywhere else besides Gretna or Belle Chasse.

Easily the only place I'd move to if I decided to leave SB but stay on the WB.

WB is unsafe crowd is pretty lame. There hasn't been an area of the metro which hasn't seen some violent crime in the past year.
