I just don't understand the ones looking for the easiest life. It is the wrong place to look,it carries a heavy price.
I always think back to John F. Kennedy's words: Ask what you can do for Your Country. He didn't mention anything about cutting deals for housing and shite.
I look at it like this: a lot of guys who left their lives in the desert joined for college money, travel, a better life, decent housing, etc... Their service is every bit as honorable as those who joined to be Cpt America. As long as it's a volunteer military you'll have to get used to guys joining for reasons that aren't optimal to you and their service is just as valid as the guys from your day.

Yes he was,in a completely different time, when motherfrickers didn't expect a free ride.

I'm sure his intentions were purely to serve

Wait, are you saying people who join for free college or other benifits are doing it because they want a free ride?

I have no complaints about any Vet Benefits,it's the expectation of going in and having it easy..that's the part I don't like.

You're just old. The WW2 vets talked shite about the Nam vets. The WW1 talked shite about the WW2 vets and so on. My honorable discharge is worth just as much as yours.

Who expects that? I'm confused, who are you talking about?

Depends on the job he wants.

No doubt,a lot is generational, older folks always say, "you young whippersnappers have it easy"
I just remember, that I was afraid that I couldn't make it, I knew it was supposed to be hard...The pay.. I could drink it all up in 1 night, and I have never yet used any of my Vet's Benefits, there are always guys that need it more than me.
They didn't promise much back then, but I got every bit of it.

Navy
He will much rather visit government run whore houses. Kid you not more girls to pick from than picking a pair of shoes at the finish line.

I made $800 a month before taxes and GI Bill deduction in the 90's and lived in a four man room that occasionally flooded with raw sewage. Not exactly baller status and I drank up my $200 check in a night more than once (thank god for the chow hall or I would have starved

Well,I guess I was replying to the way I felt, about the spirit of the original post of this thread.Things got a bit derailed, and I probably helped a bit.
I think what I should have said : If you think you have something to offer to Your Country,go where you will make the most impact. If you do this, you will also gain more out of it.
Thinking about it,like you are choosing between a career with, Amazon vs.Yahoo,is not thinking straight.
I didn't have any family when I joined,so I didn't have that to think about. On the other hand, if I had had a family then, I probably would have wanted to go a completely different route, the military would not even have been a consideration.
