I only skimmed the article but I still couldn’t find anything that added up to close to $650 million. Two things stood out to me...one is that it shouldn’t cost three million dollars to shoot anything out of a cannon, and the other is that he should be able to sell even half of his 14 residences and then he’s not broke.

It never said what the original purchase price of the houses or art was. It was just listing the maintenance costs / taxes / staff expenses / jetshare expenses, etc. Add in what it cost to buy those places in the first place and especially all the ultra expensive paintings, and there you go. It was the same with Cage - a lot of his money was blown on paintings. Getting into art collecting or racehorse breeding are the quickest and most addictive ways that the rich lose their money. It takes a long time to blow it all on cocaine. Not so much with racehorses and paintings.

You know how much good 3 mil could do for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization? And yet this is the same guy who will whine about rich businessmen and corporations not paying their fair share.

I would bet a large sum that they are all mortgaged, and probably being foreclosed on. His money managers would never have let him pay cash when it has been so cheap to borrow and just service debt, in theory leaving your own money to invest in things with greater ROI like art I guess.

I read most of the article today at work, the mom died... he said at her funeral she might be the meanest woman he ever met or something along those lines.
Just reading the comments here, amber heard only got 7 million and she donated it to charity.
IMO, he’s unsalvageable, let him go out like wants to like hunter Thompson. He’s not going to stop drinking or drugging and will likely die within the next five years and still be considered an icon... gone too soon. Basically that article sounds like a desparate addicts cry of help and I’m going out the way I want to... it’s eveybody else’s fault

He probably spent most of that money covering up the murders he committed in the viper room

Scarves and fake French accent lessons must be as expensive as shite these days.

As interesting as reading all of that might seem I just can't understand how this is possible. Mike Tyson blowing his 300 million in the 80s was pretty impressive, this one takes that cake.

There are a few variables to account for here.
If he was spending a lot of money before he invested it, his baseline isn’t really 650mm.
Otherwise, a 3.6% spend is probably a touch higher than you’d want, but it shouldn’t be too difficult to maintain for quite some time. It’s the million here, million there that did him in. A couple of several million dollar art pieces and he’s done for.

No sympathy from me to lose that much money plus he's a major league Dbag.

Has anyone told him he isn't really a pirate, and that he only played one on TV?

Johnny Depp's broke is every other man's lottery. Depp is fine. Loaded with expensive assets. His bank accounts alone probably have more than $50 million. That is Johnny Depp broke. It's not reality broke.

He has a ton of assets. He had multiple million dollar homes including a 70,000,000 home. And he lives in France because he didn’t want to raise up his children in America

Of course he has a ton of assets but apparently more debts.

That will show us. What a great example France will be.
