Consequence of Sound article

quote:

Depp said he was being a “responsible parent” because Lily-Rose Depp — a preteen at the time of this story, but who is now 21 years old — told him she went to a party where someone passed her a joint. That’s when the Secret Window actor opened up his personal supply, saying that he would rather her use his own “trustworthy” stash instead of a stranger’s weed potentially laced with other drugs.

quote:

To his credit, Depp apparently took all the steps a parent should in this scenario. He had a long talk with his daughter about honesty and trust, confirmed with his then-wife Vanessa Paradis that she was okay with the plan, and tested his own marijuana to make sure it was of safe quality before sharing it with Lily-Rose.

quote:

“I don’t want a 13-year-old going into some sort of paranoid tailspin,” said Depp. “I want her to trust me. If my daughter says she was ready, she was ready

How do we feel about this in 2020, oddball Hollywood behavior or just modern parenting?

Call me Al Bundy but giving weed to your 13 year old seems like really irresponsible parenting

For you, it would likely mean a child endangerment charge.

Is that where we are supposed to know Johnny Depp from?

Honestly, not worth even caring about. What anyone chooses to do as a parent is their success or their failure. Depp's decisions shouldn't rub off on anyone on the OT.

Having a beer with my dad while fishing wasn't an issue way back in the day.

Well, she made a questionable decision to be in a terrible Kevin Smith movie.

Probably didn't want someone slipping his daughter some weed laced with something just because she's the daughter of a celeb. Makes sense to me.

How is this any different than a parent giving their kid a beer or glass of wine to teach them about responsible drinking?

It appears, on the surface, to be a glass of wine vs a box of wine that is always around.

I started smoking weed at 14. I scored a 30 on my ACT and never paid a penny for college. I'm doing pretty well now too.

I smoked weed in 8th grade(once). Wish my dad had furnished it, would have been easier on the weed or alchohol decision I always ended up with for the weekend. An allowance only goes so far.

Not saying it's acceptable but do you really believe a 13 year old daughter of a mega movie star can't get marijuana? Take a look at Drew Barrymore's life.

Getting laced weed seems like a pretty silly thing to worry about.
