“Lakewood’s PPP check went to 368 full- and part-time employees, spokesman Donald Iloff told the Houston Business Journal. “

Fine with it if this is true. No matter what you think about him if he plaid his employees then so be it.

I pointed it out in that post: selling coffee. Once you get to that point, you’re evil. I go to a huge Episcopal Cathedral here in Denver, and they’ve never thought about charging their congregation for coffee.

Ahh... we have free Community coffee. Three different varieties. Donuts, however are fifty cents.

This is my Bible. I am what it says I am. I can do what it says I can do, such as sucking up covid bucks.

So that's roughly $498 per employee per week. Not really a big deal.

How do they pay for this house?
It only has 3 elevators and a garage for 20 cars. I could never sleep at night knowing there are good, decent starving people out there, and I’m a “preacher” living like this.
Absolutely sickening.

While I don't care one way or another my math tells me it is $11,956.52 per person unless I missed something.

4.4 million divided by 368

I mean... I agree... did he have the house built or did he buy it from someone? Not that that matters... just curious.

Many of these "pastors" need to heed the phrase "just because you can do something doesn't mean you should".

Just because he can afford that place... doesn't mean he should buy it. Appearances do matter, and he's causing great harm to the body of Christ. Just my opinion.

No clergyman should live that lavishly. I hate the idea of telling people what they “need” but I make an exception for pastors. I’ve read enough of the good book to know that Jesus wasn’t about 20 car garages.

I'd be willing to bet that it's actually Victoria living that lavishly more than it is Joel. She looks like that type. Know what I mean?

This post is strangely accurate from my experience. Once you’ve introduced capitalism into the church going experience there’s a good chance you’ve jumped the shark.

My father in law who I admire more than any man I've ever known comes from a family where he and 4 of his brothers are pastors. none go the mega church entertainment model in their churches. My father in laws church is actually quite small, very humble. And is barely self sustaining. He has a regular full time job. He is happy, modest and chooses to serve god mainly through tireless service of others in all sorts of different ways. I have literally never known anyone who walks it,lives it like he talks it to the degree that this amazing man does. Not saying the man is perfect but he has been a wonder for me to watch over the years.
There is no rock band in his church, just a few hymns, prayer and scripturaly sound sermons that he presents in a way that they can be applied to what we experience today. The modern model of church in so many cases takes liberties with the word of God and focuses on this "party with jesus atmosphere. I've rambled but suffice there are still god men leading good places. After all the gospels ask us to take up our cross and expect persecution as an honor.

My priest (orthodox) is like this. Lives a very simple, humble, life. Drives an old beater and lives in a small house. Dedicates every single day to his church members, teaching, counseling, (for free of course) or just getting to know the families. One of the best men, other than my dad, I know.
